  1. Help me out then, becaused I am confused...I am sure I saw the car that Mohler now owns , driven by a guy I got to know named John Olcott at the Willys Homerun in Buffalo NY about twenty years ago. John and his son now own and race the former Russo/Santo '41 4-dr. Ron Norman says he has the restored Merkel Coupe...saw it about 2-3 years ago at the Meltdown Drags (Byron IL.) I know Ron quite well, and because the Merkel car ran running boards (unusual for a gasser back then) Ron's car was obtained minus the runningboards, and I had an extra set of '39 boards I sold him for the coupe. He even had JackMerkel there that one year, (I think he has now past away)...I got a chance to meet him and talk to him about his gasser, and why it ran "boards". That would mean Jack had 2 coupes. Ron Norman to my knowledge still has the coupe body that was at Sears Point, minus the the front clip now on the Merkel car. I also ran across another coupe that ran out of Merkel's shop, and found mention of it here on the hamb...
As it say's this is Bill Boer's car another one out of Jack Merkel's shop. Bill had a shop in Islip LI NY. This car became a street rod and was owned by Jack Olcott then he sold it maybe 8 years ago. Whereabouts unknown.
COULD this be the car Mohler owns? Can you ask Mohler if he got the car from Olcott...paint was identicle to the
    2-tone coupe-3.jpg current pictures. g-willys ...Sorry fthe duplicate pictures! russo-santo1---Olcott.jpg 64NATIONALSINDY-JACKMERKLE-BGS (2).jpg BILL BOER 4.jpg 20160716_130639.jpg 2-tone coupe-3.jpg russo-santo1---Olcott.jpg 64NATIONALSINDY-JACKMERKLE-BGS (2).jpg BILL BOER 4.jpg 20160716_130639.jpg

  2. The silver coupe is the blue and white coupe. That car was Sponsored by Jack Merkel Automotive owned by Bill Boer. It was NOT a Jack Merkel owned or driven car. There were a few other cars Sponsored by Merkel like the Sanzo Pickup and an Anglia from someone else I can't remember right now. Ron Norman does own and has restored the original 1939 Coupe that was owned and raced by Jack Merkel. He also owns the original BBC powered metalflake 1933 Jack Merkel fiberglass coupe.

Someone sent me this photo a few days ago from 2008. Interesting group.
L to R Hales, Zartman, Bear, Mallicoat

They all had something in common. Here they are 55 years ago!
Apologies in advance if there are some repeats in there...

    What a great thread!
    Here's a shot of my folk's wedding November 18, 1945.
Pop had just gotten home of the war.
A 41 Willys coupe right across the street from the wedding on Church St. S.F.
My Dad noticed the Folk's wedding picture with Wiillys across the street.jpg car in the picture a number of years ago and showed it to me.
    Meant to be!

Man o Man what a group. Those coupes were all very hard chargers. Thanks for sharing them. I really enjoyed it. My dad was always a big fan of the Filthy Fourty and tried to follow it in the old magazines.

The pickup was owned by Harry Duncan and Jim Shores but Bourgeois and Wade Automotive of Baldwin Park were a sponsor and had their logo on the doors.

Thanks Roo I knew I saw the name on the truck, kind of like Jack Merkel sponsored cars, there is a lot of them.

Hi Dave, glad you're still lurking.
I'm doing a 1938 to 41 build shots on a separate thread here.
I should have done this a long time ago.
    Good to here from ya,
