That was Ted's last ride he had in Wichita, sponsored by the Wichita Coca-Cola bottling company. Tommy Warhurst and his brother owned the car, Ted built a stroker chevy with a 4 speed and was the driver. This was AHRA's first attempt at Pro-Stock in 1968 called Grand National Racing Circuit. It was someone elses dime...that's the only way to explain it. Used to match race Del Blades of Wichita with it quite a bit!! Ted and Larry Ericson built a adaptor plate on the back of that chevy so Ted could run a hemi-torqueflight behind it. When Ted left Wichita, his friend bought a giant moving truck in Hutchinson ks and Gene Kidder drove it down here to help Ted pack his stuff due to divorce. Dave Rupp is a name I heard my hole life. Before the internet while I was in the Air Force, I grabbed my wife at the time and just drove to West palm Beach, check into Hampton Inn , grabbed the phone book and after the first call....found Dave Rupp. This is me in 87' with Dave. Everybody is dying off so it is hard to collect any stories of the past from these people..

Its a 68 Torino that Ted and Garlan Smith made a copy of a logghe chassis and the fiberglass body went on. Due to divorce, the car was sold to Terry Ivey, renamed, repainted then sold off to someone else. 62105_1516793414119_1359117_n.jpg

I cannot stand seeing misinformation posted about my father. My father had two brothers, Harold and Don, and one sister, Irene. I have two sisters, Carolyn and Terri and a brother, Steve who knows everything about Dad. I just left Don Garlits museum in Florida...was amazed that I did not see one single item, not one, about Dad.

Aunt Ruth died of rabbit fever at the age of 5, she was in-between Ted and Irene. So Ted had 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Is really love to build a falcon that resembles the one your father raced. Do you have any plans or details on whelk base body length and so on? Mr. Squirrel really inspired me to build a street driven version like his cuda

Why would anybody restore it as a 11 second turd? It was way cooler as a AWB Funny Car!!

Don Brach's Ford couldn't fall out of a tree fast enough. He lost interest and sold it.

Sad to say Chuck Grimsley, Ted’s racing partner has passed away.

This Legacy is fascinating. In 2019 I went to a big collector car auction in West Palm Beach, the 140 or so cars were owned by a guy named....Dave Rupp. He was on site. I had not read any of this then, didn't know the Detar tie in. Small world.

Soon all those that were there will be gone and only a few of us will remember. Sad
