Ford-Vairogs ("Vairogs" meaning "Shield") (earlier called "Fenikss") was the name of a car factory in Riga, Latvia, that produced license built Ford cars between September 1937 and 1940 when it was expropriated as the property of the Soviet government. Not including the war department orders, Ford-Vairogs made 200 buses, 1000 trucks and 332 automobiles.

Ford had a factory near me, at Leamington Spa. It was a foundry.

Here is a MkIII Zephyr (or Zodiac, not sure) being looked at by employees (I guess). KOO is an Essex registration (Dagenham, Essex).

fun's over, kids. big street race venue in st. louis was hall st.; cops would turn on the fire hydrants to discourage racers.

  20. A couple of buddies and myself lost 2 hubcaps making a couple of passes down that pretty little chunk of road. That was back in 1972 before it was closed to vehicular traffic. Wine, and a good seafood dinner had something to do with it. That was also when Hamilton AFB was still open. Times have changed.

  21. When was it closed to traffic? I drove it in 1978 when I was there. I went past it on the cable car in 2014 but didn't get a close look.

  22. What I mean by closed to traffic, is that at some point, that piece of road was closed to traffic. I don't know when that was done, but when I started going back to SFO regularly in the 80s or 90s, the fun part of the street was closed to normal traffic.

    Beautiful color shot, Rootie!

I'm think this may be Chuck Weyant car in 1957. Am I close?
