History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

I posted this color picture I took at Dode Martins party some time back on the Cool Photo's thread and was told the car was originally a racer, not just lettered up. I was cleaning out pictures and realized I had what looks to be a B&W picture of the car back in it's racing days.

 

Yep ! same car . . . same owner !

 

I should know who this is...but I don't.


Gary Decker from Kansas, at the Smoker's meet, I think that's Ed Taylor's steel Austin-bodied roadster behind it.


Don Green's Rat Trap Woody-built fuel altered before paint and chrome.


Dean Moon's sedan at Paradise Mesa. Dean worked in the Urich-Gibbs service department before starting Moon Equipment.


The engine room of the Speed Sport Greth, Maynard, and Fisher roadster. This was apparently at a meet at Biloxi Dragway in Mississippi...the Speed Sport crew was not afraid to tow long distances.

San Gabriel...sure looks like the Greek far side, but I don't remember that tall windscreen.


Heaven Pacers Fiat-bodied altered at Kingdon...these guys lived up to their name, used to conduct pre-race religious services at the strip where they raced.

Paul Nicolini sidewinder, Jack Chrisman rolls towards the Lions starting line. This car was very hard to beat when it ran gas, but a dose of fuel gave it too much horsepower and it started to plane at high speed.


Walt Nichols smokes off the line in the Nichols Brothers Olds-powered fueler. I probably posted this photo before, but it is a great photo, so here it is again...

Great find there are a bunch of GREAT cars and drivers in it.

 

I'm thinking that this roadster has done blowed up...

 

Either it blew up, or that's all the paint coming off the hood.

 

Looking at all the pieces flying under the car, I'd say it's in the process of blowing up.

 

^^Looks like a driveline failure. Those dang slicks always find the weak link sooner or later...

 

And I am betting the flagman needed a band-aid in the next picture

 

And possibly some fresh skivvies...

 

How about some indoor drag racing during the winter..... Chicago in the 60's......

I suspect this didn’t end well….but at-a-boy to driver, he’s still trying to drive it even with front wheels ~6’ off the ground.
