I love customs with stark white tuck and roll interiors. The problem is Mama's 55 outside color is white as well. You think this would be too much? The dash, the window surrounds, headliner, door panels and carpet are all red.

A few pics of the current interior and the car prior to my mild custom conversion.

With the red and white inserts, it looks stock to me.

    Any pics would be appreciated.

    Thoughts?

It would help if we knew what the rest of the car is gonna look like. Build style that is.

Just gonna be lowered with Olds caps, nosed, shaved, decked. Possibly frenched in lake pipes. Pretty mild.

I guess I'm mainly wondering if all white would be too much? I just don't wanna look like the stockyards pimp.

I have found that Red and white do not make the interior look all that great. Red and an off white or cream color seems to give the interior a better look I am enclosing a picture of mine so you can get an idea. maybe look at something other then tuck and roll. its been done death. maybe panel inserts with French stitching contrasting colors. I was looking at a white Oldsmobile with a green and white interior at first I thought OH GOD really but it actually was very ice good luck with your choice.

one thing that I have learned about interiors is this. "stark white" is too white and ends up looking cheap and plasticy (plasti-key) if you know what I mean. you want to use an off white and check it against a white piece of paper.... your car should have red seats with off white inserts imho

That’s where I was going Mark, but it makes me think of a stock seat rather than a custom. Know what I mean? It just has SO much red right now.

I think the all red interior really looks good and it seems to be in excellent condition. If it were my car, I would leave the interior alone and spend that extra money on the outside and under the hood.

Just re-did my 64 Malibu. Interior was done very similar to yours, almost the same red as well. Replaced the pleated sections with fabric, with pleats. Car is a driver and fabric isn't as hot to sit on in the summer. Sorry no pictures yet, seats were stored until they are installed in the spring. Feels like 13 below out there today, so not looking for things to do outside.

Think it looks good the way it is, but how about panels with pleated separators similar to some of the European high end cars.

DPP_0140.JPG Here's the interior in my '55 Cadillac - Pearl White with rolled and pleated Amethyst fabric...gives a fifties look but matches the exterior well... I'm not a fan of all white interiors...especially where you are going to sit all the time, white gets dirty fast...

Solid red before a red/white combo.

I would really prefer to use a fabric like you have, but I can't figure out where to buy it in a decent red. I don't even know what to call it. Hard to google "best fabric for mama's 55".
Any suggestions? I got a ton of samples of bad fabric from SMS. Ugly reds.

Gary, I was thinking the same thing. Most ladies are pretty good when it comes to "decorating". I know that I would at least ask before I made a decision.

I have white with red inserts in my 54' but really wish it was white with some sort of fabric [ think Cadillac] instead. Would look a little more classy and take the car to the next level.

That's exactly what we were thinking Mark. Except we have the white exterior....which would probably take away any impact the white interior would have.

here is the advice I give to people that wonder what their car will look like.

Build a model kit of your car (or 2 or 3 models)
    this has several benefits.
    1. building models is fun
    2. It will show you what your car will look like
    3. when it is all said and done you will have a model of your car!!!

I know that if my 55 had an interior as nice as yours looks to be and I told my wife what it was going to cost to replace it she would fall in love with the red. Lol.

If I were in your shoes, I would tell Mama "The interior is your call, its your car." Then see what she comes up with. With a white exterior, any inside color combo would work, I think you are being too restrictive holding on to a white or red in any combo.

It is her car, right? Gene

OK, what if you got some of this side trim and 2 toned the car red and white. then the white interior would "pop" more....and it would only be painting half a car, shouldn't be too bad and would "class it up a bit too"

The interior you have is damn nice. Is the car staying white? With the fab work planned no reason not to respray whatever color you want.
Agree with cream/ off white and not bright white.
