Not my painting, just my photo and editing. For those in the Lockport & Joliet, Illinois area,
this is on the side of Dellwood Tire on State Street in Lockport. The complete mural extends from front to rear.

    Hello,

Of the different versions of the Tapia Brothers B/Gas FED, the one with the red wheels brings us all back to the 58-59 season at Lions Dragstrip. To us, it was what someone with the idea that a small block Chevy could be competitive and win races, as well as trophies. My brother thought that “being brothers” was rather cool at the time. (finally, after 14 years…) The Tapia Brothers were doing well against the opponents with their sleek FED. We knew about the Grist Bros, Arfons Brothers, Gotelli Bros, and the Garlits Brothers, among others.

When others were running Halibrand Mags, motorcycle front wheels, and 671 superchargers, chrome parts, here were the Tapia Brothers doing what they do best, winning their class and challenging others for the little eliminator honors. We liked the look and feel of the low slung dragster. But, how does that sleek chassis stay within the safety rules of the times?

As discussed earlier, the SBC motors were instrumental in making the Jr. Fuel class so popular later on in the 60s-70s. The sleek chassis, Hilborn/Algon Injected SBC motors, go fast stuff and quick reactions all made the Jr. Fuelers so fun to watch. The Tapia Brothers small block injected Chevy set the ground work for the later on popular Jr. Fuelers. Not big, but sleek and fast.

This week's session. Seems like saw blades are the preferred canvas. Sorry about the crappy pictures. rat-saw2.jpg rat-saw1.jpg
