Takes a thread like this to remind you how brilliant these cars are.

Possibly the finest thread on the HAMB and that is saying something.

Love GM cars between around 34 to 54.

This thread has really set me thinking about what I could create here in the uk with a similar look.

To everyone who has posted and shared their superb cars and trucks they have given me tremendous pleasure and will continue to do so from now on.
My sincere appreciation and thanks to you all from a cold dark wet April evening in England.

    Interesting idea Big Cheese 327.

I have only ever seen one of those.

That era of Vauxhall very rare indeed.

Possibly a Phase 1 Standard Vanguard?

I like that, it would look a bit like a '49-'51 Nash.

I let a local pin striper do what he wanted, and he came up with it. I loved the choice of colors. P5064141.JPG

No I'm not related to the Pharaoh in the picture. It's a vintage picture that I admire since we are from the same town and car club.

My admiration for these cars runs deep. As for me.....my love for these cars stems from the nostalgia of the 40s and of course my heritage and romanticism tied to this era. Growing up in my Wilmington and seeing the Pharaohs car club and the Bombas driving around, xmas parades and so on. They are gems, true craftsmanship from a bygone era when cars were built to last and with class.

Well I have a lot of respect for your culture and agree with your sentiments. Ollin's post above contains a link to the zoot suit riots, a dark spot in LA history. A quote from the link:

Decked out in wide brim hats, baggy pants, high boots and long-tailed coats, these "zoot-suiters" called each other "mad cats." They were "Terrific as the Pacific" and "Frantic as the Atlantic." Crossing cultural lines and pushing the boundaries of race and class, they were trying to define for themselves what it meant to be an American in 1942 Los Angeles.

Hindsight, of course, shows that these zoot suiters were at the pinnacle of Cool, and it seems to me that the Bombas are something of living history, dripping with cool.
