That was fast I saw the post moments after Ryan posted it and I wasn't fast enough Googling "gas station Anglia Gasser pictures". If I would have I would have instantly found the same picture. Dam it, I need a hat, my heads got no hair and it's cold up here
Wow! How’s about I find and post more pics and history? (What I have.) He was a founding member of my car club, The Franklin Syndicate.
I got a free hat when I had a Borla exhaust system installed on my new F150 a few months ago, but it really wasn't free when you consider the price of the exhaust Borla makes a super nice made in the USA product however. A Hamb or JJ hat would be nicer though. Now if Ryan would offer them in a size medium flex fit rather than the band adjustment type I'd just order one
You East Coast Guys cheat,,, West was still in our warm bed, cause it is raining outside and we have to keep our roadsters in the garage, no reason to get up.
We could always come up with new names for it. How about "Prehistoric Popular" or maybe "Jurassic Jalopy"?
How about drivin' over to REX Rods and take some pix of whatever Keith is working on. We haven't had any shop visits in awhile.
If you grew up in Stockton/Lodi area you knew that the Shell station on Pacific was owned by Walt Orr and he drove the Fossil.
Knew Walt Orr since the '70s ... Sadly, he passed away a year or so ago at the age of 89: Walter Sam Orr December 28, 1928 - October 14, 2017 I have several pics of Walt's Anglia (and his '32 & '33 "Street Rods") in my archives ... but this is the only pic I have of the Anglia that hasn't already been posted: Walt Orr's "Fossil" Anglia at Fremont Drag Strip (by James Handy)
There was one on the east cost Md & Va called " Whoopi " 60 threw 90s , I do you not remember the correct spelling
I thought I had some photos in my files, but I didn't. Nonetheless, here are some I found on the web: This one is from http://www.thepopshop.org.uk/Pages/racepicspage.htm This one is from Draglist.com - a list of 1/4-mile cars and times. This is Walt's Fossil 2 ('72 Vega) that I remember seeing outside his Shell station when I was growing up: According to the Draglist info, "The Hilborn-injected 301" (destroked 327) Chev and 4-speed manual trans was plucked from Orr's Anglia gasser. The small-block Vega was described by Orr as what Pro Stock started as, and should've remained -- strickly bolt-on mods. The same car apparently shifted various gas classes over the years. Featured in the 9-72 issue of 'Hi-Performance Cars.'"
And here are a few photos of the man himself. @HEMI32 posted a similar one above to this one, from a 2006 article about a Return to Kingdon drag event - out at Kingdon airstrip/dragstrip between Lodi and Stockton, CA. Here is Walt's '33 Tudor from our club website: And here are a couple of photos from his memorial. Walt passed away Oct. 2017. As you can see, he was a dedicated hot rodder/racer until the end.
