    Hello,

So I want to replace the bad float in my '28 Model A. I've tried the gas gauge wrench, which is not the greatest quality, but seems to me the one everyone sells. I have also tried a pretty large adjustable wrench.

Not sure how it was put on during the restoration, but it is SUPER tight. It won't even budge, both wrenches just seem to eventually slip off.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
    Vinnie

i used a pipe wrench with tshirt around it . if that doesnt work and your willing to buy a new nut you could use a chisel and punch.

I just recently had the same problem on my car too. Because the repop wrench is made for the repop gauge bezel it doesn't work well on an original bezel. Try using a pair of channel locks.

Try the wrenches from Bert’s Model. Cheaper than screwing up an original bezel with a pipe wrench, channel locks or vise-grips. Phone 800-321-1931

  5. Get the steel tools not the aluminum or pot metal one.

X2 denis4x4. Bert's wrenches worked on my gas gauge that hadn't been touched in at least 50 years.

Ordered the wrench from Bert's last night... the better steel one. Hopefully that will work. Just have to wait for it to arrive.

  11. looks dry, a little penetrant will help while you wait for the wrench.

Berts wrenches work well for just a few bucks. Though you will probably only use them once or twice.

I agree - equal parts of acetone and transmission fluid works wonders on stubborn (rusty) nuts/bolts.

Thanks all... used the Bert's higher quality tool and it came out easily. I now have a working gas gauge.
