Features Four Spots in the Perfect Garage

I hear you on the '41 truck. There is no finer looking truck from Ford. In the middle of doing a mechanical rebuild on mine and trying to keep it from getting too nice. I intend to keep using it as a light hauler around the house and driving it hard.

Crap, I had 3 of these at different times. sure would like to get them back.

 

I'm sentimental about cars so I submit the following;

1: 39 or 40 Ford Sedan - My grandpa drove one that was po-boy hot rodded with a flat V8. Something along those lines would be fine

2: 55 1st Series Chevy PU - My first car. It would be cool to do one that had tribute to that one, but in a custom rather than the poor sad 80's vibe my truck had. I've never built a custom truck, so it would tick that box as well.

3: 65 or 66 Corvair Coupe - Blow through turbocharged 140 and a 4 speed, full on road race setup, but street legal (Just barely). This one because we built these for years after I got married and I never really had the cash to build a full out autocross corner cutter the way I knew I could. Mid engine V8 is an acceptable substitute.

4: 61 Chevy Pickup - Another grandpa memory. All of his work trucks while I was a kid were the first 2 years of the 60-66 Chevys. He loved the torsion bar trucks. His last one was a 61 ton truck with a 12' dump bed, a hopped 327 with a granny 4 speed and black Mustang seats. It was cool, and exemplified the shop truck in every way. Another tribute with a regular bed please.

I have three already filled and looking for a pickup as well.
32 Roadster, 48 Hudson,63 Riviera.

 

I think 4 is the magic number...I've enjoyed 4 before.....I have an open space where I once had a '29 RPU (open hot rod) but, someday that space will be filled with a '32 roadster....
so my list goes...
1).Hot Rod - '32 roadster (personal goal to build in the next 2 years or another pre-war Ford - see below)
2). Muscle car - '70 Chevelle (own, first car I bought at 15 y.o. with paper route money)
3). Drag car - '41 willys (I have a '52 willys aero which I'm REAL happy with set up for drag racing with an L88, but a '41 is the mountain top.
4). Truck - '65 el camino (I have this, although with a 427 and straight axle, and not very utilitarian, but something I NEEDED to build after seeing Hollywood Knights).

No shop truck in the garage as everything I own that has plates has been used to haul stuff... there's currently 3 39 trans in the trunk of the 34

Custom: Cushenberry's Matador, or a close second, the Wilhelm Mark Mist.

Hot rod: Doane Spencers '55 T-Bird.

Race car: Ford GT40

Truck: Who cares, with the above to drive?

 

1. I ditto the '65 Buick Riv but would be happy to any 60's Riv. A close second would be a 36 Ford with a slight tail dragging stance and a nash grill.

2. A 1930-31 Model A Ford RPU, (with the cab extended a few inches, I'm a large guy). It has to have lakester headers but I'm not picky about the engine, anything from a flathead to a hemi would make me happy.

3. A wicked mean gasser. I'm not picky, I'll take just about any body style it just needs to have a gasser stance and a ton of torque.

4. I'd love anything from late 30's on but being a large guy I'd have to go with something from the late 50's on for practical reasons. My sentimental pick would be a '64 Ford with a 390, my Grandpa's work truck, I spent much time in it while working concrete with him.

I'd just be happy to have anything right now.

 

I have my four (along with a bunch of other shit that distracts me from getting these four done).
1. 1957 Cadillac Coupe de Ville
2. 1932 Ford roadster
3. 1964 Plymouth Savoy
4. 1956 F100 Big window

 

I could never part with mine. But these 4 would do it for me. #1 kustom #2 Hot Rod#3 race car#4 the shop truck. Ron....

I like what I have right now and there are SO many choices, but these sound good tonight.

Man, good question Ryan. I have been thinking and am having a difficult time so here goes:

Hot Rod- My '29 on Deuce rails with Flathead.

Truck- a '53-'55 F-100 slammed with running boards removed, nasty FE and painted like Agajanian's 1952 Indy winner. Or a '57 Ranchero with a Boss 9.

Custom?- '41 Cad convert with skirts lowered just a tad. Or a '41 Continental convert with a blown V-12. Or a '40 Merc. convert with Skirts, Flipper discs and a nasty flathead.

Race Car- A Kurtis KK500-J Indianapolis Roadster.

 

I have the best wife in the whole wide world. Been with her for 47 years.
She's ok with however many cars we want.
The only stipulation is we can't sell them

OK, first....if I had a race car there would be no time for anything else. Racing isn't fun for me unless I win.
But I've always wanted a 57 Safari mild custom...
I've already got my dream-rod with my 34 ford coupe. I'd need to spend some time and $$ to refine it a bit. An interior and real paint would be nice.
Home owners and hot rod owners need a pickup. I'd like my old '49, F-1 back again. It had a cheesy 289/c-4 in it and twice I broke the rear end in it with the little 2 barrel SBF, automatic. I'd truly like to try a 392 hemi/ 5 speed in it now.
For the 4th spot? A C-5, ZO-6 corvette. I love driving my kid's supercharged version.

 

Not sure about a custom??? ...but I can think of several that would fill the posistion
Something like this simple 55 would have to fill the Hot Rod posistion as A 55 would be the main one I would have to have

slightly ot but still a early look, 66/67 plymouth belvedere/GTX would fill a straight race posistion

60s GM shop truck ....or tri five one or 56 ford would be ok too

 

Tough call..my choices are all over the map (could be why I've had close to 100 cars).
Kustom-late 40's Cad, Buick or Olds, '65 Riv, or going crazy on my '40 Convertible.
Hot Rod-my '39 Deluxe coupe

Race Car-I'd substitute another Hot Rod or Kustom instead (my car hobby is expensive enough without campaigning a race car) so maybe a '55 Nomad, '38 Chev Coupe, '64 GTO, '62 Impala SS, or..

 

Truck- Can’t argue with 40-41 Ford or 53-56 Ford
Hot rod- Tom McMullen’s 32 roadster
Custom-40 Lincoln Zephyr 5 window coupe
Race car- 1963 1/2 factory lightweight Galaxie 427 4 speed

 

Come to think of it, I have all four.
My '56 210, Olds powered '28 highboy, the Nailhead powered '33 Ford pu and my blown SBC '49 Austin. Two are up and running, the '28 is getting a facelift and the '33 is under construction. The only thing I'd like to add would be a '49-'50 Ford or Merc woody.

 

Tough call when each of the 4 has a category.

Custom: 49/50 Chevy fleetline
Race car: original ford gt40 not the new stuff
Truck: 48-53 Chevy like every body else has

Wife:
Hotrod: 40 ford coupe, moonshine style

Truck: 47 ford

Not sure about the custom, but I have the other three:
'32 Ford Roadster
1965 Porsche 356 Cabriolet
1954 Ford Ranchwagon (that works as a shop truck doesn't it ?)

I do have a 4th car, a '31 Model A coupe.
I keep looking/lusting for more but I also see that too many becomes counter productive. It is hard enough to keep these four on the road and feeling loved.

Hot Rod = 23-25 T on A rails, 322 Nailhead
Race Car = Competition Coupe Abbreviated 36 Ford Fordor w/blown 430 Lincoln.
Shop truck = 53 Ford Panel Truck

Shop Truck; 1941 Ford pickup, I have this one, and use it often. It has the old 59AB in it, and never fails...
