I can't beilieve this hasn't been done yet... His music kept me from killing people on the freeways of So-Cal for years... And "Money and Friends" carried me across New Mexico on the way to Texas. I also play him in my "Shop" when I got a lot of detailed shit to do that I might fuck up if I got too wound up on punk.
R I P...." I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde" The Isrealites, arguably the first reggea song.
This makes me greatly sad. He really was a musical savant, and brought a well of good through his music. Really under-appreciated in my opinion. Thanks for the news.
Wow. I remember those songs from when I discovered ska in the early 80s. I know it's not ska, but I got to appreciate him from that time on. Moment of silence.
I read this today and was like OH MY GOD!!! I saw him play when I was 16 and he BLEW ME AWAY!!! Still one of the best shows I have ever seen... Ska!!! Punk!!! Rock n Roll!!! Kept me going at that age... Very sad day!!! xoxox PV
Truly a sad day, he was a legend, I saw him in santa barbara in 92, I still have the sticker I bought that night in my sticker collection, Look's like a playing card with 2 Vespa's on it. Incredible showmanship, I was hoping to see him again.... R.I.P.
I know this is a few days late....been a busy weekend but here's a great tribute to him (orginally broadcast Tuesday night)from the MIT radio station I am always plugging: http://www.wmbr.org/?p=sched-tue#bovine
Get up every mornin' slavin' for 'pressa So that every mouth can be fed Ohh ohh ohh me Israelites Greatest opening lyrics ever. RIP Desmond
I hosted a SKA radio show for two years, many many years ago... His music has always been some of my favorite. I heard of his passing last week. A big loss indeed, but he left us some great songs. Mike
We share the same birthday- July 16th. Saw Desmond a couple times back in the early '90's. I grew up in the '80's grooving to his ska and rocksteady beats. He will be sorely missed. Doc
