    Hello,

Nice capture of a Long Beach City icon from the early days. It was built in 1948. This Nash sedan is on Lew Davis Street in Long Beach, CA. The stadium and huge parking lot is located across the street from the old Douglas Aircraft Plant and nearby Long Beach Airport. It is currently owned by Long Beach City College for home field usage.

It was home to several early pro football teams in the late 40s. In the 1960s our high school set a record attendance of 11,000 for a playoff football game. That was very cool. The parking lot was full of 1950s and 60s cars at the time. There were a lot of hot rod/antique swap meets back then. The parking lots were packed with stuff from garages, N.O.S. and hot rods for sale from all over So Cal.

It was a nice place to get stuff for your builds. During the 80's to today, the closest thing to classic hot rods and cruisers is one company's monthly, high performance, automotive swap meet (plus hot rods for sale area) during the year (recently, Jan 6), as well as the football games in the fall season.

The photo was showing the early years of use. Under the stadium was an intricate design of supports and beams. The later years, the area got enclosed for better usage and safety. The huge parking lot is still a huge parking lot and it gets used all of the time. Slowly, but surely, the surrounding, Douglas Aircraft Plant (Boeing) is being cut down during the slowdown in the aircraft industry.

The stadium was in our expanded hot rod cruising area. Our Long Beach high school was the only one at the time, using the stadium for its home football games. It is close to the Cherry Ave Drags area, Oscars Drive-In to the East and Bixby Knolls to the West.

“Veterans Memorial Stadium (also known as Veterans Stadium, Vets Stadium or simply The Vet) is an 11,600-seat stadium located south of the Liberal Arts Campus of Long Beach City College in Long Beach, CA."

Actually, it is attached to the Southern end of the LBCC campus near the athletic department facilities.

Was an Auckland car with a Morris Minor windscreen the guy who owned whose name escapes me had a panel beating shop over by Western Springs or somewhere near there.

Enzo Ferrari said that Chris Amon was the best test driver he ever had. Everyone thought he would be a world champion following in the footsteps of Denny Hulme and others. Unfortunately Chris liked the "high life" and all the "interests" that came with it when you're a world class driver, sorted of slowed him down, so to speak.

My wife is an RN, she went through the Nursing program at Long Beach City College. That program is known to be one of the toughest and most respected in the country.

This one amazes me. We had the technology to build those skyscrapers, but there were still horse drawn buggies on the roads....

I was in London in 71 and there were still a few horse drawn wagons.
