I'm having the same problem fitting wheels over disc brakes ( Scarebird )
I would like to install the Smoothie style wheels. Did you find a wheel type that will fit ? spacers ? Thanks Jeff

Great build! Love the steering wheel........wish mine was that nice. Probably a bit late, but did you happen to see where your chassis number was stamped on the rails??

Great thread....can't wait to see how this car progresses. I've got my own 48 Poncho and wanna do a power steering conversion without chopping up the car too much...has anybody done one and know what steering box will work ?

Bought a CARDONE 27-6531 steering box (think it was for an El Camino or similar) and fitted to my 48. Steering column will of course have to be modified but not much "chopping" of the frame was needed, only welded in three new sleeves for the bolts. Original steering arm fits the new box. frame.jpg

Hi, what a fantastic car this is, wow!
Have you sold the fender skirts already? If not and if you consider selling, please let me know. I would need them for mine.
    Thanks, Hans

What's been going on with the Pontiac? No updates in 2 1/2 years.

    Hey Josh,
Sorry, sold the Pontiac and bought something a little more desirable....39 Lincoln Zephyr

Where'd the Poncho end up, which state and what are their plans for the Lincoln, is it a runner etc?

The Pontiac ended up in Adelaide.
The Lincoln will be pretty much stock...factory axles, Columbia 2 speed, flathead V12, no chop, Washington Blue paint.
The only thing different will be the interior...probably a dark tan leather

    Hi All,
Just ran across the thread. I have the same car as speters, body wasn't bad but frame was rotten.
I'm going a different route for a more daily driver as well as a tow car for my '48 and '50 Spartan Trailers..
I'm leaving the body pretty much stock but using a doner frame from a '63 Buick Wildcat. Would have had to shorten up but I have an independent Lincoln rear end.. already air.. I can locate it where I want.
    I will go with a V8, maybe (sorry purists) a 5.4 ford?
I admit it will be a long time till I get to it but I will.
    Cheers,
    Rick

Sadly not complete...The amount of floor / rocker / body mount rust stopped me in my tracks. I have been chasing down another body for years with no luck. It just sits in my garage haunting me now

    Sad to hear that.
I’m the guy who sold & shipped the Nailhead to you.
Would have loved to see it running

After 5 plus years of having this project on the back burner there has been a huge development. I gave up on fixing the body and started looking for a donor body. After 5 years of search I finally found the right car.

This survivor is still wearing original paint and has been hiding in a Minnesota garage since the mid 60s
