Hot Rods If you could get back a car you sold what would it be

Well 1st for me was a 37 Chebbie Coupe , 100% steel OEM never rusted car traded for a steel 3w 32 in ten thousand pieces , 2nd was 48 F1 , sold it build my current PowerWagon . 48 was a driver, I put 70K on it used it to haul engines , Wood , parts . Just neeeded 4x4 , and wanted a Diesel 4cyl because they said it can’t be done ! Over and done , can’t cry over spilled milk !

Traded my ‘57 Ranchero for a ‘53 F100 in 1971. Would love to have the Ranchero back. It was a 312 stick. Owned the Ranchero for 11 years. Was painted rootbeer brown , dash was pin striped by a kid I knew in high school named Bob Biehler , who when he passed owned Mr. Weld HotRods in Olympia, WA. We both graduated from Crawford High School in San Diego. Me in ‘59 and him in ‘61.

This 34 pickup...reminded me of a model truck that never was finished...I sold it to a local older hot rodder...that removed all the history painted the whole truck primer brown - then sold it again....the dumb shit!

 

Interesting conversation and I am like everyone else, I think about what if's.

The one that I have thought about many times in the last 56 years was that 32 coupe I bought from Mr. Burton when I was 12 years old, I owned it for a few hours and my dad made me take it back, that car haunts me even to this day and it may just be the reason behind my obsession with 32 Fords. HRP

 

That would be my last 55 Chevy. Just out of the army in 68, found a 2 door for $65. Got it running & drove it to a friends place. It ended up bright yellow , diamond tuck interior. 283, 3 speed. Yeah, I'd like it back.

'57, 210 HT street strip, white, complete black roll pleat, 283/292, tri-power, three on the floor shifted in reverse direction for quicker throw to second. Traded on 63

My 1957 Triumph TR3A when I was in the Navy. Not a hotrod but it was fun....

 

My '46 Studebaker PU with a SBF & 4spd! It was my first true "Hot-Rod", & I still think about how I SHOULD have built it!!

53 Studebaker champion. Never should have sold it but had no money at the time to fix it. Wish I had it now.

 

This one sold it to Sweden, big mistake.

 

"1970 Olds SX-455" sold it to the president of the Oldsmobile Club in Denver, CO. almost 30 years ago.

 

Bought a 63 Fairlane 500 body, good glass, good interior for $50 in 1972 and saved it from a guy who was going to put it on a FWD Bronco frame and bounce it around the woods. I had plans to install one of my FE motors in the car but as my job sometimes took me away from home for months at a time, it was going to be a long project. I was out of town for work when my wife decided to move from the farm where we lived into town. She called a guy I knew who ran a salvage yard and told him to come get everything out of the garage. Two 390s, a 4 speed, a factory tri-power setup and the Fairlane went out of there that day. I'm still married to her but I'm damned if I know why.

 

Bought a running, driving 62 Impala 327 3 on the tree for $300 just after HS graduation in 73' with the seller having the 1st option if I sold it. During the winter, spent all my $$$$ on a 70' 350/300 and an M21 Muncie. Drove it thru the summer of 74', then pulled it apart and sold it off to fund college. Seller bought the body, 10 yrs later has it on the road, and ends up selling it to a youngster who wraps it around a maple tree.
When the opportunity arose to buy it a 2nd time, being married with 2 young ones put the kibosh on that idea. I've always had a soft spot for it!

'54 Olds (no picture avail). Sold outside Kelly's Pub in Arcadia, CA 8/95 the very night before I moved to college dorms in Central Valley.
Recently came across DMV renewal notice from November that year, with plate & VIN info. Wonder where it is now.

I already posted up my '34 three window but got thinking I'd like to get my Deuce Sedan back too. Sold it unfinished to do a bunch of work on the '34. Would also love to have this barely OT '66 SS396, 4 speed Impala I had back in 1976 when I was in the Army. I sold that car to finance a V8 Vega project (What a dumbass I was!).

 

I had a steel 23 T bucket built in the 60's by a guy named Bob Owens in Hayward. not sure what the frame was, but it had a V8-60 axle and a big copper gas tank on the back, painted dark green. had a bunch of old school parts with it. judging by the other items in the guys old garage it had a flathead at one time or another.

traded it for a 52 Chevy truck to a guy who had built a couple T bucket style cars that were not T's, and the shithead parted it out. I'm sure I got more for the truck than he got for the T parts. this was the deal where two idiots met.

edit: found my scans it was just sort of propped up here with blocks of wood. this motor never powered it. had a T spring and rear crossmember.

 

Sold this in 87, floated around locally for a couple of years, then was sold to someone in Minnesota. One of the best driving things I ever built, early 60's full size chevy front sub, 66 nova rear, 4 inch chop. Part of the reason I sold it was a chip I got right in front of the driver in the windshield and my glass guy had moved to California. Mostly just curious if it ever was finished better, was always just a beater to me.

I would want to get a few past projects back only to do them the justice my past hack jobs didn't do! But at least I kept improving I guess!
