I'm swapping out the original 216 in my 53 Chevy 210 to a 283 that I have. I aquired an s10 with a nv3500 and wondering if anyone has used one or has any info on fitment issues. I was hoping for a t5 but wasn't the case.

The problem is that it has an integral bellhousing that only fits the bolt pattern on the back of the block that it is designed for. There is an adapter for a turbo 350 to bolt it to the back of the 235 but that alone would cost more than buying a T-5 outright. Then you get around to finding a flywheel with the right ring gear tooth count. Too many worms in that can to make it viable.

He is putting in a 283, too. He just needs a SBC flywheel, that has the same tooth count as the donor vehicle, and a matching starter. In this case, the V6 S10 donor had a 168-tooth flywheel, and so did every native 283 application. Both have the SBC bell pattern, but take a different flywheel, due to the seal and balance change.

It should fit under the stock floor, but you will only have an electronic speedometer drive.

The NV3500 is a fine transmission, and will serve you well. The only reason that they do not show up more in swaps is the integral bellhousing, and hydraulic clutch.

Read again, he wants to use it with a 283 v-8. Shifter position might be an issue. use the earlier flywheel as the one for the one-piece rear seal setup used in s-10's and 1500's wont work.

You would have to have an adapter plate similar to the one Tom Langdon sells for the 200R4 / 700R4 swap. http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/st...apter-235-and-261/p/1396439/category=18665953
Then you would have to figure out what flywheel would work.
Then you would end up having a custom made pilot bushing made.
The depth of the splines in the clutch disk might be an issue because of the thickness of the adapter.
The correct clutch disk is just $$ not a big deal
Getting the right length throw out bearing that works might be an issue.
Sometimes something that starts out cheap doesn't end up cheap or easy but you can figure on spending around 500 to get that trans to work on the 235 at a minimum.

He had a 216, and is getting rid of it, in favor of a 283.

Put a 4bbl on the S10 V6 and use it.

I have the 283 V8 already built from a previous project that is in great condition so I'm not interested in the v6. As far as adapters, it should fit right up to the small block pattern being that it is bolted to a 4.3l v6. Flywheel and clutch combo I can figure out. My main thing was just wanting to know fitment under the car. I still have the original engine and everything in the car and just rounding up parts at the moment. Just wondered if anyone has done it. I have search the web with no luck. Crossmembers and mounts are no problem, I just wasn't wanting to totally reshape the floor or trans tunnel just because the tranny is free.

I can get you some pics later. I just pulled out a 261 with t5 and swap in a 327 w/ nv 3500. They fit nicely other the shifter being a little far forward for my liking. What rear end are you plan on running?

Floorpan clearance might be an issue. The NV3500 is kinda bulky compared to most others. Shifter location might be an issue also. Another thing to consider is the entire shift mechanism as a whole, cast aluminium shift forks and cheesy roll pins attaching the shift block to the rail. They don't really tolerate much aggressive driving. The blocker rings aren't the greatest either. Then there's the whole hyd.clutch mechanism. It can all be made to work, but there are definitely a few negative trade-offs. Just something to consider before you dive in too deep.

I'd sell that trans and go to a Camero T5 with S10 tail shaft hooked to a standard 153 tooth bell housing and flywheel with clutch arm with a 10.5 clutch package. More compact and easier to hook up the clutch.

  13. I picked up a nv3500 from a 2000 S10, it uses a hydraulic release bearing. Shifter is a little further back than the S10 T5, should be okay.

I have put 2004R's, 700R4's, TH350's, TH400's, and T5's all under the stock floor pan and trans cover.

427sleeper is correct about the size. I had the heavier nv3500 behind a built 350 in a 69 c10. (Much heavier) not once did I have an issue with the trans.

I’m sure I’ll catch some flack over this but I use a manual clutch level in these trans. I cut a hole on the side of bellhousing and and a plate with a ball! Works great!

I was just speaking from experience, I have torn a couple of 'em up. But then again, I have been told I could wreck an anvil with a rubber mallet!

I have a rear from a 4x4 s10. disc brake, posi, with 3.73 gear. that's the reason I was wanting the 5 speed with OD. its just going to be a cruiser so I didn't want to be on the highway with the rpm through the roof.

My bad, I didn't read that right last night and was reading 235. I'd swear that read 235 last night. 154 tooth flywheel and matching starter and you should be good.
I've either got to change brands of beer or get new glasses.

mattmann527 that sounds like good combo. Depending on your overall tire size I'm sure you wanted you could change the ring gear out if you wanted

I hope its the newer 3500 with the 3.48 low instead of the 4.02 low.
