Just saw this photo photo of two flatties for 600$. Used as orchard fan motors. Getting excited thinking about it. Here's a photo. Sight unseen, what would you do? Jump and risk it?
Are you building one or are you planning on flipping them? While six hundred bucks is cheap, two cracked blocks with stock parts is not worth much to anyone else.
Maybe build one and flip one. I've seen piles of rusted flatties go up for 400 around here all day long. Being orchard motors I woukdwou think they had a ton of time on them or run all that hard.
I'd want some more information. They look like 24 stud motors, but the pictures are not that good, so I can't be sure. I'd also like to known if they were 59 series or not. All in all, I'd probably buy them in any event, as the engine stands and radiators alone are probably worth a couple hundred bucks by themselves. Given their use, I'd say they are probably a better bet than something sitting in a field or in a car with no hood. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Yeah...but they probably spent their entire life outdoors in the environment. Without puling the heads you have know idea what your purchasing. How many days weeks or months went by when someone forgot to close the hood on them.
A buddy got one out of a grove wind machine. 59 series with a truck 4 speed shifted into 4th gear. Clutch looked brand new since it was never used. He put the engine in his '30 Model A Tudor and I put the trans in a '40 ton and a half I had. Both the engine and trans were in great shape.
51504bat. Yea those appear to be wind machine frames. I had one from Mentone and it had a 59 on the bell but seemed to be one of the replacement/industrial engines produced after WWII and had more cracks than the slow lane on the I-10, oh they are fixing those!!
Hey!, you're supposed to be chopping a T-Bird! Looking at other stuff is only gonna get you sidetracked!
