  7. Either WIX or Napa Gold, both are Wix......nothing else. Used to use Fram until I became enlightened !!! Mitch.

There is a chart floating around the web somewhere that lists all the filters and who makes them. The better ones were all made by WIX. Good enough for me!

  9. Baldwin, first, Wix second. If Baldwin protects Diesel engines making 1800 foot pounds of torque, they are good enough for my stuff!

Napa Gold, quick & easy. Except on the missus new OT. OE filters on that in case of a warranty issue. I know they can't hold you legally to it. It's just easier to take it out of the equation should there ever be a need.

Wix...and not the off brand that the parts store says is the same thing because it's made by Wix.. it may be made by Wix but the media and the amount of media is not the same. Compare an air filter and look at the density of the pleats.

Baldwin is cheap crap! A buddy of mine nearly lost an engine due to a crappy Baldwin filter coming apart. I've had their fuel filters collapse and suck themselves together in just a few miles. Anybody gets near my truck with a Baldwin filter might get a tire iron aside their head!

  21. ^ A buddy I knew nearly lost his life because of a Baldwin..............piano as he was trying to hoist it up to the second floor balcony.

  22. I'm proud to say that Wix Filters started right here in my home town of Gastonia NC.
Jack Wicks and a partner started the businees in Jacks garage. Gastonia was a textile town and they needed a source for the waste fibers used in the early type of filters.
They still have several production plants and offices around town....

    Wix filters 100%

  24. I like using wix and kranilator (sp?)

Surprised the Napa gold filter is as good as it is as it’s priced well.

One thing I don’t understand is Fram filter have always been the “ standard” no shop I ever worked at ever stocked fram filters but fram part numbers have always been the “ standard” part number when ordering filters..... why?
Was fram good at one point?
I know they have been junk for at least 20-25 years, ever since I started driving and fooling around with engines.

The filter media I always knew was sub par but rust inside of a new filter is just complete garbage !

My Dad worked at a NAPA store 50 years ago and he cut open filters for the store then. Found the same thing back then. Wix and NAPA Gold for me.

anyone know where to find dimensions/measurements of filters ? - online sites ask for application - local parts stores rely on computer files - (have STP S3600XL -height 4.05", OD 2.99" thread 3/4"-16 --- looking for something with taller height - used on a remote filter setup)

There is a pretty easy to use Wix chart here. http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/filterlookup.aspx?

    The Fram site, of course!

    Honest.

You can look up filters by size on the Wix site easily enough
    http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/FilterBySize.aspx

Or by application or cross reference http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/filterlookup.aspx?

Back 30 something plus years ago the word was that Fram decided to put their money into advertising rather than product development and ran the huge advertising campaigns plus put their filters in a lot of parts houses and box stores.
It's 20 miles o the closet Napa store in either direction so I usually buy the top grade Wix here in town.
