That RPU was on the cover of a small quarter car mag. either late fifties or early sixties. Sorry, that's all I can tell you.

Other than a nice T this photo is pretty awkward by today's standards.

I always liked the early stages of this pickup the best but that was not where it was headed back when Car Craft was a little magazine. A classic none the less.

Man I love this thread, thank you everyone for your contributions. Some of the Coolest (& many of the ugliest ever) , what a decade?
I could spend hours looking this over.

  13. Six Ball, I agree the earlier stages of the truck looked better before the Bob Metz fins, but it was Rod & Custom magazine not car Craft.

    Yes Rod & Custom,sorry.
Thanks for the follow up of older versions. The final picture of the wreck is sad. Were they really flat towing one of the hottest customs of the time?

Some of these last ones are from the time when I pretty much quit going to car shows. Not that there weren't still some very fine cars but all of the attention at shows and magazines were on these one use "show" creations. Just not of interest to me. That is not to say they weren't a showcase of workmanship and fierce competition for the trophy.

Great pics of a legendary Merc, Loudbang. Of the 5 pics, I think the top one is an Olds, maybe a 51-53. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that era Merc, and the Pre 54-55 GMs that featured the hood center that was higher than the front fender tops. Such great kustom bait. I just think it is a different car, with the 57 Desoto bumper, hooded headlights, etc. Even the top of the quarter panel has the traditional Olds stainless sweep down. If it is different car than the Merc, any more info on it? I dig it too.

(captain obvious just bit me in the back side, I looked at the picture again and clearly see the show sign, that says "53 Olds")
