I reverse engineered the tranny mount/split wishbone plate based off the Chassis Engineering piece. I was wondering if anyone knew how far back that plate sits, also the bottom of the x-member where it joins together has been replaced so I don't have anything there to reference it to (bolt holes, rivets etc...)

Nobody answered yet ,,, so here is a bump back up.

Btw, I am a bit confused why you don't just mount it as far back as you need for your bone length and trans mount location? ...but I can only assume it is for a 35-48 car with spring ahead, and you don't want to change the angles of the factory wishbone? (so you then don't need to heat bend the bones or bend the spring-ahead perches?), .....I'm just suggesting for you to add more info for others...

Your going to have to mock up the axle /bones and spring to get correct axle angle. You can move the rear bone mounting up or front and back and down a bit to get the 5-7 degrees and make sure the weight of the car is on the spring

Ok I think I can do that. I don't really have any weight to put on the car as it's in pieces.

Just throw a a few hundred pounds on the top of the frame . So when that big guy in the red coat and white beard stops by in a few days, have him sit on top of it and make the location:D

  7. We use tube sand to weight one. A piece of plywood or a couple of boards across the frame rails and start stacking the tubes. Of course around here it is easy to come by everyone uses it to weight their cars in the winter.

Here is a thought too. A lot of the people around here are not hanging the split bones off the outside of the frame rails. They move the mounts inboard a little bit to get a little angle on the bones. Even moved just to the inside of the frame rail makes a difference in ride and handling.

Looks like I'm going to have to readjust my design. It sits real far forward almost on the body brace and I have a lot of overhang on the outside.

If it sits further forward but clears the drivetrain just cut more off the wishbone ;)

Like Tim said, you'll need to test fit engine/trans before deciding where that crossmember should go. Here's another angle of mine. Although I've since cut it off, the T-5 has an ear that sticks down quite a ways that can interfere with the crossmember if it's not positioned right.

I was kind of hoping to get everything in place then drop the engine and tranny in place

If you search three the first couple pages of my 46 build thread there’s gotta be a photo of me putting mine in. I tired to look and find it yesterday but I’ve just got my hands to full. I’ll link to the thread shortly
