Projects '33 5w Build Thread

    It's just in mock up form for a while. I may be looking for a 390, for the obvious displacement, but also for the full flow filter setup.

    I've been pretty busy lately, so I haven't had a ton of time to work on the car. I'm still plugging away on the chop, mainly on the drivers side before moving over to the passenger side.

    When the a-pillars laid back, with a section removed from the chop, a gap opened up between the door top and pillar. In addition, the details/stampings on the jamb side of the door inner no longer lined up, so everything needed some massaging to look factory.

    I wanted to cleanly fix this, and I decided to remove the outer skin in the area. This allowed me to get access for reshaping the jamb side of the inner, and also allowed a clean way to extended the inner:

    Once that was welded and finished, I made a new outer skin from 18 gauge, and rough cut it to fit the new door opening. The new outer was welded and finished, and then I ground both the inner and outer to a consistent door gap. From there, I made a new hem for the back side based on the new shape. I clamped it in place, and welded the edge of the door to formally join it:

    With the door edge welded, I took a file to the edge to dress the welds, and cut a consistent radius on the edge of the door to match the factory profile:

  14. As beautiful as your roadster is (and I have only seen pictures), you are on your way to another killer ride. Beautiful work from a "non" metal man? It looks pretty professional to me.

    Any photos of how they did the A pillars to lay that area back to the roof. Usually you see the cowl being layed back. I like the looks of yours better. More smooth.

    Your '33 is gonna be yet another Bitchin' Hot Rod!

    Thanks guys - still chipping away at the finish work for the chop. Fortunately, I'm off for a couple weeks from work, so I should get some more time with it.

    We just relieved the back side of the a-pillars enough for them to lay back to the header. Cuts across the whole cowl are usually unnecessary.

    I chopped mine by cutting and sectioning the roof. Now, I wish I could lay the windshield back just a little the way you did it. Great work.
