Motion Pictures What was the cheapest cool thing you’ve ever gotten?

  1. If more people spent some time doing the menial jobs before they become rich and elitist then society could perhaps be better equipped and we could get along with each other.

My first ex-wife, cool cheap and didn't cost much to get rid of.

  3. I think my favorite was at an estate auction. A tray of mixed mostly crap, I wasn't paying attention until the auctioneer was having trouble getting a dollar for it. I waved my hand and got it.

Among the things in it was a 1936 Reo fender parking light that brought $250 on eBay. I think that's the box that had a bunch of obsolete Slant 6 rotors that sold for $15 or $20 a shot too.

Toward the end of it another guy I know got a set of '72 Challenger headlight bezels, NOS in the box. No one else wanted to bid, auctioneer tried to get me to bid, I knew what they were, I knew the guy who wanted them, knew he had deep pockets, and just walked away. He got them for $5 each.

In November 1962, after months of searching for one, I found this old car in a field in Southern Maryland.
Paid $25.00 for it. Yep....TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS!!

A decent driving 1969 Chevelle...the gentlemen was the original owner, drive it to Woodstock etc. but nobody in his family cared and his wife wanted it gone. We still keep in touch...it pays to ask and be respectful

Sold them on the HAMB. Lovely pair of earliest Fenton headers for 235 Chevy. Found while on a wrecking yard crawl. 1954 Chev "short bus" , four windows down the sides. Scrap operator sold them to me for $20.

  11. I'll share two of my "freebee's", one good, one bad.

Complete J-2 intake and carbs. I was about 16 at the time and didn't know what I had. Sold the 3 2's to a buddy.

Complete 350 chevy that had been bored .030. I got heads, crank, and the tin from a guy who's brother owned it, but had passed. Was going to build a stroker until I found out that someone had honed the bores too much and they were no longer round.

Driving over to a motorhead buddy of mine to show him my supercharged four speed car I just purchased. Walking up the sidewalk I spot this shiney thing sticking out of the mud and grit. Omen DSCN4025.JPG DSCN4024.JPG

Went to a model T,A swap meet in Long Beach in the mid 90's. Walkin around I saw an old porcelain neon budweiser sign skin. There were 3 other guys standin there, I asked how much for the bud sign ? They all just looked at me then one said we are all waiting for the owner to come back to find out. One by one they walked off . The owner came back and said $50. I was offered $1000. walkin out to my car. Still have it. And built a bar to hang it on. IMG_0136.jpg Frank

My cheapest was a new '31 Model A hood. There used to be a huge gravel parking lot that everybody parked in on Friday/Saturday nights. Had my 31 parked face road. Two undercover police officers pulled up in an unmarked car. Officer walks up and said nice car. Asked if I wanted a hood. Being 20 years old I said thank you but I didn't have any money. He said , I didn't ask you if you had money. I said sure thank you. He left and came back in 20 minutes and said here you go. I thanked him. Moved the seat up and stuck the hood sticking up behind the seat. Got some looks cruising back home.:D

If you consider Christmas, My toolboxes full of tools. Since I was 8 my dad has gotten me a few tools each year for Christmas. Now I've got damned near anything I ever need, and sometimes 2 or 3 of them. They'll never leave my family if I have anything to do about it.

A set of Corvette aluminum valve covers and a set of early T-bird valve covers from a really nice old man, whose granddaughter looked like a hotter version of Cameron Diaz :)

My friend called me up and said a friend of his passed away that was into Model A's and he was helping the widow get rid of some things because she had sold the house and if I knew what a Riley head was. I said hold on I'll be there right away. I took a look at it and put all the together and I asked her what she wanted it for it, she said $1,500 that she needed money to put carpet in the house. I told her it's worth more than that. She said she was happy with $1,500. I ended getting the Riley 4 Port head, side cover, push rods, intake, 2 Stromberg 81's, Mallory dual point distributor and model b engine.[IMG]
