My Grandfather was a Flying Sergeant Pilot in the Army Air Corp (look that up :) ), my father was USAF (B-29s to B-52s), and I was a Naval Air ground pounder. So I wanted something flight related somewhere. eject.JPG

My latest find. I'm a vintage Stewart Warner nut. I collect the early 2 5/8" curved glass crescent needle gauges, so this is perfect.

    Bakelite Stewart Warner shift knob.

  18. I'm reviving this slightly stale thread because I just helped a new friend out by working up all the adapters needed for him to install a fighter plane joystick control onto his Lokar shifter. He works at Boeing so he latched on to the firing control a while ago and I simply helped him make it come true. I'm hoping he could score one for me someday but they are getting scarcer than hen's teeth.

That would be great for bangshifting...:D...heck I have a vision...the Antiques roadshow...Mike as found its worth would be $5000 but drilled painted and tapped $100...just kidding...ah the good ole days...

  24. I like the shifter, but I admit I am biased.
For sentimental reasons, (I have over 4,000 hours on airplanes that used that type of handle), I had been trying to find a real survivor from a sixties jet trainer or century series fighter, but they have become so expensive that I had to shelve the idea as not being practical.
    The installation looks great.

Here's a larger Mercury God shift knob I bought for my dad for Christmas this year. He just built a '65 Comet AFX drag car, so this will be a cool piece of garage art for him.

Needs to be painted, but he'll enjoy that.

Does this one still exist? Hopefully he's not gathering dust on a shelf, or in some long forgotten swap meet parts box.

All my vehicles have red phenolic ball knobs from McMaster Carr. This one I engraved for the 6 speed trans in my Ford pickup. I buy the blank knob and 3D machine the pattern in at work on the CNC mill. 1300.jpeg
