I double checked the thickness and it's 5/8". Marked out the plate and put my festo saw to work with some diesel in a spray bottle so I didn't overload my saw with a binding blade. I did the cutting in around 4 passes each cut. 20181124_160150.jpg 20181124_160147.jpg 20181124_161009.jpg 20181124_161859.jpg 20181124_145041.jpg

20181124_163106.jpg I'll round the corners of the sandwich plate and tidy it all up with a light sand and polish. Top plate will be easy and It'll be likely I'll make up some low carb risers out of the same plate. Festo has a clamping system from the bottom to hold the rail in position for those who aren't familiar with them.

Worked out alright so far. I'll make a template from 16mm mdf and mount it to the ally plate, then run a router around it with a top follower bearing to get the detailed fit. 20181124_190033.jpg

Made a start to the lakes style headers today. 35-36 drive shaft and torque tube ends from a couple of stuffed tubes. Wanted the tubes out of the way so I cut out anything useful from them. I'll plasma up some caps and have to get some bends to finish them off. 20181126_155426.jpg 20181126_164316.jpg 20181126_164950.jpg 20181126_185324.jpg

  8. Will you leave the ends on the torque tubes to attach the caps or have you simply not yet cut them off?

They've been welded onto 35-36 drive shaft ends, split. I put them on for caps.

Offset generator bracket from a damaged single carb manifold I made up today. Just requires some alloy plate to adapt to the studs. 8ba generator mount is perfect for front to back adjustment of the generator to align with the pulleys. 20181127_132150.jpg 20181127_131330.jpg

Been a good day. Slowly patching my rusty roadster and had a pallet of goodies arrive today from interstate which I purchased online. Worked out far better than I expected! 32 heavy, rad shell badge, door latch sets for closed and open car luggage rack, headlight bar, rear fenders x3, front frame horn cover, set of door hinges, front fender backets, rear bumper irons, rad support rods, hood stays, tail lights, bug catcher scoop, headlights, front spreader bar, deck lid handles and latches! Early Christmas for me! Left overs from his street rod build! All for $250... 20181211_132829.jpg

'35 - '36 drive shaft is a hollow tube, tapered at each end... made a set of headers out of one 25 years ago
smaller diameter than the torque tube...

Yes that's what I have done. I welded the torque tube ends to the drive shaft for header cap attachment. 20181126_190513.jpg

I lived in Lompoc in 1963 and worked at Vandenberg Air Base for General Dynamics. Use to go to Santa Maria Drag Strip when they would close the airport on Sundays. Sure do miss those days (I won't tell your boss) .

    Regards,

Here are some photos of the parts I recently aquired. Spreader bar has the same colour paint as my car under the silver. Also made a basic tach mount yesterday. Some of the parts have already been sold such as the scoop, but there's a few parts amongst them I was chasing! I plan to have the 32 heavy dropped at a later date. 566531505.jpg 20181211_181759.jpg 20181213_185340.jpg 20181212_191129.jpg 20181211_140447.jpg 20181211_182333.jpg 20181211_140349.jpg 20181211_140428.jpg 20181218_101947.jpg 20181218_185006.jpg

  19. What's the info on that scoop? Would look rad on top of my Holley 94 ;)

Already sold the scoop mate. The parts I picked up had some rego papers from june 1954 at the bottom of a crate which is pretty cool. The scoop sold for $250 which offsets the cost of all the parts I purchased. Also sold the glass rear fender. The majority of the parts I will be able to use.

I also found some interesting things on my recent tin hunt. As toasty as this 35 chev truck door is I still like it with the cartage contractor signage on it! Found a T ford rear cross member and some other off topic items as well. 20181223_181043.jpg 20181227_171207.jpg

  23. That door would make an interesting wall hanger.
