Hot Rods THE INDUCTION THREAD

I’d like to see more of that^^^. The first thing I noticed was the injection, looks odd because the face of the intake ports is horizontal on Buick heads and those injectors have a bit of an angle to them. Then I noticed the exhaust ports! What’s up with that?

 

Back in the day here in Albuquerque we raced out at South Eubank. This was in the late 70's early 80's. One of the fastest cars out there was a blown Chevy van. I think it was called The Iron Butterfly. Dang, that thing was quick!

Here’s another example of what I noticed on those Buick nailhead ports. This shows how the head castings have been milled to straighten out the flow from the intake.
I imagine Max Balchowsky was the first to do this, but I wonder if he was the one that modified the exhaust ports in the other post above.

 

Why is it that My Lincoln looks so much different from that one? Could it be a fake?

 

Outboard engine, rope pull start, set record first time out at Lyons in Long Beach, protested immediately. Jack Underwood was part of the team. Went into a dragster but never completed . Guys got married and moved on.

Great stuff Stumpy. Love to see those nail heads. One of the best looking engines ever IMHO.

 

Stumpy, that is the Winfield V8, as Lew Welch originally called it, later he named it the Novi. Harry Miller had no involvement in it, but his former draftsman Leo Goossen did the drawings and Fred Offenhauser who bought Miller’s equipment and took on most of his employees did the machine work.
Andy Granatelli owned it when it was seen in this version with a Paxton blower fed by a Bendix aircraft carb and twin ignition.

 

These Hilborn stacks look tired...
