Actually,it was 1/16th mile. the starter was Terry Cook,who later was Editor of Hot Rod and Car Craft magazines. For the past few decades,Terry puts on Lead East,the world's biggest 50's party.

 

And trucks cannot use recaps on steer tires.

The shot of the 29 car looks like an IMCA show at Winchester. The owner/driver was from Springfield. Illinois, but I'm having trouble recalling his name. Want to say the last name was Lynch, but that doesn't sound right.

Considering that bunch at that point in time, I'll bet whoever showed up with the car in the background with the wing on got a bunch of snarky comments.

 

You're correct his name is Lynch, Chuck Lynch to be exact. Look closely and it's just above the pitman arm.
