Appears in Canada it refers to the octane. 87 (Bronze), 89 (Silver) and 91 (V Power/ Gold)

The picture was taken in Alabama in 1937 so yes, she could be alive. The store owners son (in the other picture) is alive

Out of all of these pictures, I haven't seen one of a Seaside station in California. My grandfather owned one in Los Angeles during WWII and into the fifties.
