Does anybody know anyone that custom makes a tube straight axle to fit a 5 on 5.5 wheel? Or point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

Any axle that uses a early Ford spindle will accept a stock Ford hub(or after-market if desired) with a 5 1/2 bolt circle.

Seb, I don't plan to run a front bumper. I would love to chrome the front axle and rods etc, but some say it weakens the metal. I doubt the cast steel axle would be weakened, but I know my wallet would for sure, LOL. If I get energetic enough to disassemble the front end, I may look into powder coating. I think they have a coating now that looks like chrome at a distance. I need to check into that. Maybe someday do that or even th ereal chrome. To get the front tires out that far I had to use a 1/4 inch spacer and the 6 inch wide rims only have a 2 inch back spacing. I would like to get the wheel face out the couple of inches so I could go to a narrower rim and tire (although the same height tire) and still have the tread out that far. That means I need the king pins out about 2 more inches per side. But, I do like the 6 inch rim and the thicker tire for street handling and safety reasons. I worry that the real narrow tires may slide a little during cornering if the locker locks in a turn. The same as using a spool. Mark L

  4. Sorry about the delay getting back on the undropped axle, I measured the holes and they are 1" and spaced on 1.5" centers. Contact Sid for more info.

Hoping some of you are watching this thread as I attempted to resurrect it...

Is there an ideal height for a gasser chassis? The Southeast Gassers require 12.5" between the bottom of the chassis and the road, so that's a minimum. Street Freaks are far more generous, but I wonder if there an ideal for average vehicles, say 3200-3600 lbs, 112"-118" wheelbase, full frame. By ideal I'm looking for drivability.

Measuring at the rocker panel, my 55 Chevy is 13 inches, the Corvette 14 inches. Both cars ride and handle fine.

Just finished narrowing my 54 f100 axle to put under my Morris Minor. Will be drilling the holes in the axle tonight. 20161212_1946411.jpg

  9. Heres mine, modelled after the 2 lane blacktop car, not sure how O/T it is...this is a mock up stage, there is still trimming/gusseting/welding to do and wheel arches to be cut. but at this point I know it'll all work together harmoniously.
It is 11.75" from the rocker to the ground at the rear and 10.25" at the front at ride height..
I'm working on the tilt front now...

My old Goat I had back in 1970 while I was in the service....Had a 421 with tripower in it....If I remember the axle came from a Chevy van because it had the same bolt pattern has my GTO....I remember having to have the springs shortened... My 1965 GTO.jpg
