I google image searched this one.

Worth the effort. Houses in the way of the development of the I5. Bought by the state and auctioned off. Some were dismantled, some moved wholesale, which is a sight that always fascinates me. In the UK if we say we're moving house, it just means you're moving to another house. I like it when people used to actually move the house.

The driver was Ralph Ligouri at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in 1964.
His speed was too slow to qualify and this is on the “cool down” lap.

The photo shot itself could have been staged

Won't argue the point, but I thought the driver was Chuck Booth. The other guy is Wally Meskowski , his mechanic. Considering the personalities involved, I would assume they were just exchanging pleasantries.

Chuck was a hell of a guy. Never going to be one of the all time greats, but the personification of the term "journeyman driver".

  19. I know I am being picky but that one is a Phoenix, the next spec up from the Pioneer. It has the extra chrome on the side that the Pioneer doesn't have. In '61 the Dart came in three trim levels; Seneca, Pioneer and Phoenix. In NZ we only got the mid spec Pioneer. At least ours were all V8s. In the US the base engine was the 225 slant six.

  22. Being a V8 it is nowhere near as rare as the 4 cylinder version. The book says 6585 V8s built vs 189 fours. Still only a small percentage of the total 1933 Ford production of over 300,000.
