Is that a pale blue? Really like the color on my monitor.

Not sure why you randomly pulled trim off, but the car looks good.
    I also have a 210 2door hardtop

I have some bel air fender inserys that i was considering using....what do you all think? Use them, or keep the 210 look?

My dad has a 210 and he wanted to put the Belair inserts in the quarters but I talked him out of it. I like it this way.

Is the 210 2 door hardtop more rare than the bel air?

168,293 Belair Sport Coupes, 23,092 210 Sport Coupes in 1957. These are 6 and 8 cylinder numbers combined.

I painted my first 56 B/A 2dr HT on Christmas eve 1968... o_O.. that is a half century ago:(

....and I was just on the other side of my town a couple days ago, looking for a hambers home. He just moved here from out of state...A guy flags me down in my hotrod... his neighbor. Then says someday when you have time, stop again to "see my 57" !! I did right then... Now I'll have another cool car to cruise with. old roll and pleat interior, too

Keep it a 210. Paint the coves white if you want a two tone, or the roof. It's sad to me to see those short fin spears and the Bel Air inserts. Just looks like you're trying too hard to have Bel Air.

You know what they say............."do whatever blows your dress up"!
My second car in high school in 1970 was a BelAir two door hardtop, I thought the sun set on them, didn't even know about the plain two-ten, I would love to own a two-ten hardtop.
If you want to see a lot of them spend some time scanning 1960's drag racing photos, they were pretty popular for racing, though somewhat heavier than a 150 sedan.

Yes, by far, 7 to 1 ratio (about) Belairs to 210's in the 2 door hardtop body style.

If you saw it in person it would be more understandable....however, i may spray back over it, but just go with a flat finish

  23. Please, whatever you do, don't put the inserts in the quarters!
The world doesn't need another bogus Bel Air. Flaunt the fact that it's a rare 210 Sport Coupe. It's special for that reason. The long piece of trim on the dash is specific to 210's, not reproduced, and valuable. Many were destroyed by folks who just had to dress up their cars. Yes, the fender spears are a total PIA to install or remove while the car is assembled. you have to reach waaay back in there to get to the last clip nuts. Burly people just can't fit.

  24. As a '57 junkie, I say thank you.

You painted the car to then sand it back off for a fake patina?

So ya got it painted and didnt turn out to suit you so ya thought the patina look might salvage what you already have?
Doesnt bother me, Rock on til you decide to do something different.....maybe you can get er all stripped down better the next time taking the fender trim, headlight rings etc off before you shoot it...and do more homework on what paint, technique etc to use......looks like you may have gotten some good practice in;)

My friend left the inserts off his BelAir so it would look like a 210.

The first time I saw a 210 hardtop I thought they had just taken the quarter inserts off.
Then I noticed the short quarter panel top cap trim, same as the sedan uses.

Yes, this car really needs all new quarters, but i am on a tight budget so i tried to work with what was there and fix the old bondo job as best as my abilities allow.....then i used several different primers in case the paint job did not turn out that well. I was unhappy that i could still see waviness in the quarters and other areas....thats why i gave the patina look a shot. However, i am not done yet. I will live with this look for a week or so to see if it grows on me. If not, i will spray it again and leave it in a flat finish.

Leave it a 210, Theres a LOT more differences than just the side trim and trunk spears.
Bummer, in pics your paint looked pretty good. That and Im just not a patina fan, real or fake
