Scenic Drive in Carmel, California. Seems GM liked to use several locations there.

Question for the photo experts: it looks like they dulled chrome in the places that would reflect the sun directly. Was this done to the subject before taking the picture, or was it done in the after? It makes it look like someone polished the trim with 100 grit crocus cloth.

^^^^^ Watered down milk and sprayed on was common practice in picture, tv and movie making back then.

I lived for 2 years 1948-50 as a small child in Cincinnati. Steam locomotives were a common sight and plentiful and I loved seeing them. I had an uncle who took me to a roundhouse one day and it was a real highlight of my 5-year old life. I still remember it clearly. Around '58. I remember seeing the last Southern Pacific cab-forward go past us on tracks in L.A. county. There are restored steam pulled excursions trains at various parts of the country; there is a restored SP Daylight that shows up from time to time. The 1976 US BiCentennial train toured the country with steam power, there are several others. If you have never seen one, I highly recommend it.

Those were taken at Gloucester Park in Onehunga , Auckland [about 1.5 miles from where the present Waikaraka park is now]
Some of the Early Stock car racing was also done at Epsom Showgrounds [closed 1959]

I found this photo in my searches [whereabouts unknown] but judging by the pre-60's style Jockey helmet I would assume this photo is period correct.

By todays standards this is so wrong in every way.
    Flameproof shorts!
    Flameproof singlet!
    No gloves!
    Jockey Helmet!
Probably only had a Lap Belt!

Back in the days when racers were "Hard Men"

    Do you know the make?
The door lines and windshield look "Auburn" ,but it is a roadster not a boattail

I you look close there is actually a third person in that photo. Right behind the guy looking at the driver, you can see an arm, some binoculars. Who knows what was going on in the moment. Think the car was from PA.

Yes, sorry I left out the fact it is an Auburn from around 1929, and I think it is a boat tail. . Note the door handle, I picked up the photo on a Google search, and thought it was odd, but every restored car photo had it parallel to the door seam not he belt mounding. Bob

The door seams and the golf door seams and the louvers in the hood are all parallel .
I like the drivers hat and the snow chains.
