    Hey G,
Great I.D. on that intersection in Los Angeles. That 3 tower building is still around the last time we were up there for a family memorial service on 1st and San Pedro St. But, it was a little shaky driving down San Pedro St. for the 5 blocks we needed. It is in the heart of "Skid Row" labeled part of Los Angeles. Encampments and panhandlers were all over the place. It was not my wife's kind of place, but we had to drive through on San Pedro St. because of the nearby traffic jam.

Normally, the fastest way into that LA City Hall-Downtown area is to get off from the I-5 freeway North to 4th St and go over the famous bridge to Alameda and First Street, thereby passing up this whole "scruffy" area.

It paid off to keep my young mind on all of those routes my dad used to take when driving in and around downtown Los Angeles. He knew all of the best roads for the fastest passages in this area. 35 years of driving from Long Beach to Los Angeles will keep you sharp.

Dave McDougal's wild Altered . The engine is a 292 Y block, and the body is a Pommy Austin 7 "Ruby" with a chop.
Shown here in early guise [with a single carb]

Steam was being phased out in the fifties but some steam actually survived as a working asset till the early sixties. Union Pacific still has a large historical fleet that is still live. Most impressive are the Baldwin models.
