Ron, if the "junkyard" pic is yours- is that T wrecker on the left and Efsi? Man, I haven't seen one of those since the last time we visited my grandparents in Kiel, Germany! Thanks for bringing back some great memories

Some oldies, great start.

 

Mid 1959
Hello,

As previously stated, Eldon Dye had some unusual race cars. But, when he found the right combination of car, chassis and of course, driver, Don Hampton (later of Hampton Blowers.com) he stayed with that winning combination. Until the urge for faster speeds and a quicker race car was necessary. (It was!)
1958-59
Between 1958 and the end of 1959, the Dye/Hampton Bantam Coupe went through a metamorphosis. The big Cad motor with Strombergs was exchanged for a bigger 671- Hilborn injected Hemi in the same chassis. This, along with bigger M&H slicks made it go much faster.

A rare photo from Lions Dragstrip in mid 1959, the now 671 Hemi powered Bantam Competition Coupe. Thanks, Dave, 296Ardun...

And finally showing up changed, at the famous 1959 December drag race at Riverside Raceway. This final version was painted a cool, blue with a white racing stripe. There was no mistaking that Competition Coupe. It had the 671/ Hemi with what looked like one version of Howard Cam’s Chain Drives in late 1959 at Riverside Raceway and in 1960 at the Bakersfield Smokers March Meet.

Despite the results, the race car was a fan favorite from this (teenager, then) race fan. So, like all cool race cars from the 1950s-60s, WHERE IS IT NOW?

Had to show this one also was a cool shot of our first ride in it.
