This is my first art show post. I've been practicing my striping and this is the first attempt I've felt was worth showing everyone...what do you guys think?

Most of my art lately hasn't been H.A.M.B. worthy but here are my lastest although they are still in progress.

This is a grayscale marker rendering of the H.A.M.B.'s TXRat's truck...

Hey 1-SHot,

What are you using to bring those sketches into vector?

I am always looking for something cheap and easy. I am trying to use AutoCAD right now.....it doesn't want to play with Illustrator and I basicly have no knowledge of Illustrator even if it did....

 

Right now I'm using the pen tool in photoshop to make the vector shapes, then I usually transfer the paths into Illustrator...I've been told I'm crazy fro doing it this way...but I seem to be more comfortable with the pen tool in photoshop for some reason.

by the way...awesome work Dan...your style is sooo cleeean!..and brush those are some awesome business cards!

 

May as well add a couple of mine...pen and ink...both local cars.

First off, DAMN!!! This show gets better and better every week!!! A humbling experience lookin at everyone's stuff to say the least!!
And hey 1-Shot, your stuff rocks even more knowing you use the pen tool in P-Shop.... I was taught that way, but became more comfortable with the pen tool in Illustrator (sketch it out, scan it in, vector the hell out of it...)

Again, EXCELLENT show again this week!!

 

Everybodys stuff is top notch!

On the vector subject. I scan it in using photoshop, place the image into illustrator and redraw it so its all vectors. That is the method that I teach my graphic design students in my intro to digital applications at the University of Missouri, KC.

Illustrator has an auto trace feature but you have to clean up a bunch of stray anchor points when its done. Takes more time than redrawing it for me.

 

What's all this Photoshop/Illustrator/vector stuff????
All I've got is a bunch of pencils and markers.
Would like to try it sometime.

Mitch Maciel (Alteredpilot) did this panel for me a few months ago, I don't know if he ever posted it here, but it looks good in my garage.

 

1shot - yep, crazy way - sounds like a little double handling.
Illustrator has the same pen tool as photoshop.
just take in the scan and trace it out using you photoshop method in illustrator.

Either way make sure you post the end result of the camaro, nice work.
Reminds me of my old GM aus monaro i did in the same way...

I know the question was rhetorical but man it takes just as much talent and knowledge...

O'course I believe that anyone can make art - you just have to keep doing it to get good at it! I went to college to do this stuff, so I got a lot a practice way back when - but when I first got to school I realized quickly I NEEDED to practice. There are a lot of talented fuckers out there who you'll never hear from, if you want to stand out you have to be able to sacrifice some major time to hone the skills.....I was too busy drinking my body weight in beer.....

Life a bitch, right?

Ohh well - I'll get over it. The life of a tormented artist - sheesh

But seriously - digital art (giclee) ( ihttp://www.gicleeprint.net/abtGclee.shtm ) is nothing to sneeze at. It's as valid as digital photography - which was scoffed at by tradtional film photogs, but now is THE medium to work from. And it makes sense for all of the same reasons.

Take it seriously...uhh just incase you weren't joking.....

Its my experience (what little I have) that when you are doing stuff in photoshop, you still need a good "eye". You still need talent.

However, I still like doing stuff the old fashioned way....which will NEVER go out of style.

There is just something to be said about the physical movements that go into painting or drawing. That "dance" is cool......It puts the artist into a trance.

Best drug on the planet.




The computer can do that too.....but in the end the computer is just a tool, just like the airbrush (which is skoffed at too).

Use the tool when you need it. The more tools the better....obviously.

But if we liken it to automotive work,,, a good way to look at it is this: a vacuum guage is useful, but you don't use it to loosen a lug nut.

You gotta know when to use which tools for what.


I'm rambling.

this next one was just an idea i had. about an hour for the paint scheme and wheels. first attempt a making a wood effect. its supposed to be a slightly burnt wood w/ a sealer. (a plank, if you will)
