I'm down with Lowrider by War. That's a killer cruise tune for the daytime.

Gonna have to say Slow & Low Beastie Boys for the evening.

TOOL going down the highway at night. (Or any other time for that matter)

Primus on the highway in the daytime.

Nekromantix are sweet as hell in an old rod. Got that 50's 60's vibe but with twisted effects and crazy lyrics. Don't jam this one in the garage if Mom might stop by. "Naw Mom, he ain't talkin' about grinding up corpses"

    Dig it...

By any chance is it something like the battle of new orleans?
I prefer any thing by ZZ top for my cruising.

First thing that came to my mind was "Ramble Tamble" by CCR.

After much thought: "Light My Fire" by the Doors.
When my folks were dating in high school (Rosemead, CA circa '67) that sang came on the radio for about 3 dates straight when they were in Dad's Bug. When I drive around with that on, I picture them, teens in love. Plus, I love the way the song climaxes.
    Part of my top 5:
"I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide" (ZZ Top)
    "Maybeline" (Chuck Berry)
"Bad to the Bone" (George Thorogood)
    "Darlington County" (Springsteen)
When I first got my licence, I drove Mom's Honda all around late-night Arcadia with the "Born to Run" LP tape playing, then the "Darkness..." LP.

Amen to the Peter Gunn Theme... I used to have a big-blocked 77 Gran Prix affectionately known as the "pimpmobile". The Art-of Noise vesion can't be beat for cammed-out cruising. For twisty-turny back roads I gotta go for Maybelline by Fats Domino. Anything over 110 on the flat gimme SRV "House is a' Rockin"!

((Looking around to be sure none of his fascist RaB buddies are looking))
It's probably cliche, but "Take the Money and Run" by Steve Miller Band.
His "Greatest Hits" 74-78 album has got to be my all-time favorite road trip album. Just a great record, perfect sequencing. A nice way to spend an hour or so.
Of course, if I'm driving the camper van, it's more like "Give Me Forty Acres (to Turn This Rig Around)" :D
