I think I need to get some repop subframes for my model a. I would be curious to know what kind of issues you ran into trying to incorporate new subframes in your body. Thanks in advance!

So are you just leaving the inner fender out? I considered doing the same but how does that affect the strength of the body?

 

I didn’t run into any issues at all really, but I didn’t have anything original to start with. I’m sure there would be issues if you’re working with original stuff and aftermarket. The inner fenders will go in last, I definitely wouldn’t leave those out. Good luck with your project!

Well I haven’t made to much progress with the holidays and getting stuff finished up for customers but I’m back at it now. Working on making a patch panel for the drivers side door. I picked up a nice original frame too.

 

Also, I’ve been looking for old almquist stuff for my 59a motor. Picked up this intake setup. Now I’m searching for a set of heads if anyone out there is holding.

Looking good, love the intake. Do you have dies to match up the lower door bead?

I was just wondering if you'd had to make dies to match the bead. I have some sections to replace myself and have read that they can be difficult to match up with standard dies. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Nice build.

 

love it bro, im in the same boat with you. im doing a 31 ford coupe build and bloggin about it here. my body is complete, finishing some details on the chassis. are you running fenders?

Thanks. Just using the regular dies that come with most bead rollers. Folding the edge over after is the hard part.

More progress. So I started messing around with the rear axle. I got the old spring perches cut off and the new ones on. Also changed out the drums for the wide five ones. Then I got the front and rear bolted up to the frame and set the body on for the first time.

 

years ago a local rodder ran a tunnel the same shape as the wheelwell all the way across connecting the 2 sides on his channeled coupe, painted it flat black... he then welded "boxes" into it for his battery and tank... with the tires on you didn't notice it much at all... my $0.02.

 

This is a great A model build.

Well everyone that has come into the shop since I’ve started building this car has asked me if I’m going to chop it. I spent Friday night taking the wood out, bracing, and laying out the 4” chop. Last night we cut it off and set it back on.

 

soooo nice. looks right.

 

Is it too early to catch what you do with the chassis? With my preference for tall Model As, I still feel the need to at least step the frame and get a little lowering from a later axle, then take it all back with some tall Ford wires. Probably a generational thing. I keep a set of wide fives in case of acrophobia. I really like the look of a chopped top but with long body and short legs like Burt Reynolds Jr, I need to sit on the floor. Staying Tuned: Fred A
