Anyone ever seen a dash like this ?
Original unrestored 46, sitting for years that looks like a cross with a 47 dash, can't see any modifications to metal.

 

do u have the data plate info? maybe a late 47? I've never seen one like that.

 

Not mine, but no data plate, interesting truck with some unusual factory looking features.

 

maybe factory was using old body and new AD parts, battery box is AD style,
but AD dash only has 2 gauge cluster openings, might be rare, who knows,
try Tim Sheridan on FB 41-46 pages

 

That's where I seen it.

 

My brother had an early '47 panel...his dash didn't look like that. The rear window and firewall look way off as well.

Given your location, could it be a Canadian model?

How about this? The 41-46 Chevy Truck thread is not dead. Been far too long since I have posted anything on here.
Been working on my 46 Army Truck getting it ready for a big show in May in the Lake Chelan Area of Washington.
Also started another project, a 41 Ford Commercial firetruck. You know me, I love the Isuzu built frames, sticking a Trooper chassis under this truck along with a 350 TBI motor and a 4 speed overdrive transmission.

 

I guess I should say this, that I use to use the screen name "one crusty one" while posting all my work here on the HAMB. Want to say hi to all the guys with these 41-46 Chevy trucks.

 

To all, back on the net with my latest project. 1946 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. Barn find from East Texas. Next step is to acquire an 88-96 3/4 ton truck as a donor. Going to merge the two into a hotrod shop truck that I can pull trailers with. Still have a few original parts to acquire before I start the project. Thanks for all the links and info so far.

 

I found a few trucks in may of 2016, have put two together since. a 41 3/4 ton (made into a 1/2 ton)

both trucks got IFS and EFI and highway gears. remember these were trucks destined for the crusher, nowhere near nice enough to restore, and were missing large portions of the parts (the first 41 looks complete but look close, it has a 47-53 bed and rear fenders). in fact the second 41 I bought as an afterthought while the crusher was on the property, couldnt let it go.

I enjoy seeing everyone elses trucks in the thread. @HvyMtl55 I dont know how far along you are on yours, but thats a really nice start!

Thinking about cutting some windows in the sides of my hood, centered on hood sides but not centered off of my lights, lights are centered on upper grill from front view hmmmmmm

have any of you 41-46 chevy pickup owners found anywhere to purchase new sheet metal? looking for guards for a 1/2t and possible running boards.

I have a 2T here in New Zealand that i'm wanting to turn in to a 1/2T. Finding another truck here, is near on impossible.

This is not get your “ducks all lined up in a row”, but “TRUCKS ALL LINED UP IN A ROW.”

In South Orange County, there is a Chevrolet vintage truck supplier business in the industrial area near the beach. Every time we happen to go by his shop(s) there is a truck or two, sitting outside of the shop.

The “surf ghetto” of this beach town has shops of all kinds, from this truck/museum/parts business to several restoration/repair shops just down the main street. (Los Molinos) It also has the biggest collection of surf related shops/custom board manufacturers and actual shaping rooms running most of the week.

“Just Call Him Mr. Art Deco”

Proprietor Brian Mueller said he fell in love with art deco design as a child in his father's Los Angeles neon sign shop.

Adding to the funky vibe that has developed in the Los Molinos "surf ghetto" area of San Clemente over the past couple years is Mueller's Art Deco Museum & Garage.

Proprietor Brian Mueller, sporting glasses with wire earpieces and thin tortoiseshell frames that wouldn't look out of place on Franklin D. Roosevelt, runs the small exhibition as an adjunct to his business designing, engineering and selling parts used to restore classic cars.

Art deco was a design movement in both interior design and architecture, as well as automobiles that had its heyday from 1918 to about 1947. Clean lines, streamlined shapes and stark, modernistic re-interpretations of classical sculpture and imagery characterize the aesthetic.

Mueller spoke with Patch in the research library of the four-room museum as big-band jazz played softly in the background.

"I've been collecting art deco things for 40 years," he said. "I traveled extensively through the U.S. and Europe, shipping things back, storing and warehousing them. I finally decided, before I kick off, to start displaying them so other people could enjoy them."

The front office is set up with art deco-style furniture and bric-a-brac, as is the extensive art deco research library. A wide, open-air hallway displays neon signs from the era, hearkening back to the neon sign business Mueller's father had in L.A. on Sunset Boulevard.

The real showpieces are the 15 classic Ford and Chrysler automobiles from the art deco period; mostly trucks. Mueller said he fell in love with the graceful curves and elaborate, sloping chrome grills of these work trucks because his father owned several. He would use them to haul neon signs down to San Diego on Saturdays to install them.

Mueller set up his business on Los Molinos and opened the museum in October of 2011. He held a grand opening in May. The museum is open for events or visits by appointment and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the first Saturday of every month.


P.S. The Los Molinos District is San Clemente’s old industrial area located near the beach. The original Rainbow Sandal Company is still located here, as well as services like smog repair and landscaping materials, etc. There is a one of a kind metal shop that has made several sheet metal parts for us. Their metal shop is next door to a building called, SCSQRL. That is our drive by stop over every time there is something new in the giant windows.

Hi guys. I have some more questions regarding the front guards on my 2 ton truck, It looks like the front clip on my 1946 2 ton is different to what it would be from the factory. One of the differences is the wheel openings don't seem to be cutout hugely to clear the larger wheels. So what i'm wanting to know is if someone with a 1/2 or 3/4 ton pickup could measure there wheel opening.

I relies this wont be perfect but should give me an idea of what I'm working with. I've tried to measure mine as if you were looking square onto the side profile and at the bottom points on the guard. Mine measures about 900mm or 35.4" wheel opening.

The other difference is very unusual headlights, still on top of the guards but with out the teardrop housing. Though I'm not concerned by the lights I kind of like that its different.

any help any help is much appreciated

Your beautiful truck is not ex military , the guards are typical of a civilian truck . Please don't cut them . The funky headlights , well , who knows what they are off , keep them or toss them as you like , But there are a few correct '46 lights at the occasional swap meet .

 

You right Dusty NZ, I don’t believe the truck is ex military, but possible the front guards are, with the black out market lights. I have spotted some old military photos and with the head lights like this. The other thing is my guards don’t have the flat spot for the tear drop headlight to mount too..

The truck you have in your avatar is that a 40? Where the rear guards similar between 37-46?

The front guards I’m not wanting to cut, just want to know how close of a match they are to the half ton front guard. I’m wanting to convert this to a 1/2 pickup.
