Technical Hemi crossover for blower application (From idea to production)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 55willys, Jan 13, 2017.

  1. Quote; "After the prototype works then the real work begins, making the pattern and core box." end of quote.
Is this something your doing yourself?

Yes it is. I don't have a problem with doing it other than the time involved.

  3. Kool, I also have a local friend that casts parts and a very good pattern maker. Couldn't remember how far you could go on your own.

Update: getting my life back in order after a divorce...
Working part time at a body shop doing custom metal work. Running my Highway 101 Rod and Custom buisness. Getting some time to work on this kind of stuff. While setting everything in order I found the jig plate and welded crossover. It won't take much to finish it up.

  6. I've gotten this far using a borrowed part

That's cool! Is that resin? Is the part the same size for test fitting or oversized for casting?

  8. I'm still interested in one. I really like what I see in 31 Vick's photos. I'd buy one like that in a Hart Beat. My Blown Hemi project slipped to second place due to my 53 F-100 project but I still intend to follow through.

Was that 3D printed actual size in plastic ?

I ask because I’m possibly in the position of being able to have one or more of these printed in high quality metal on a 3D metal powder bed printer.

These laser metal powder bed printers can 3D metal print forging quality parts.

All that’s needed is the program to run the printer.

  11. Is N.A.I.T. getting one?

I say possibly because I think they have one now in their new technology center.

I’ll be able to check it out coming up in January when we’re slated for a tour of the new place.

I could be wrong but I had heard they were looking into getting one.

  13. That's cool. Wonder what the cost to run that thing is?

Not sure, I saw them running several different ones in Chicago at the AWS Fabtech trade show.
Here’s an example of the complexity of parts they can print in metal, and a few shots of the printers.

  15. It is a plastic print , a duplicate of original without any adjustments to size.
The software I used can add or subtract to dimensions (for pattern usage and shrinkage). Just need to tell it what to do.
Hope I don't misplace that flash drive in the move

The easiest answer to that question is found by reading the earlier posts in the thread......

I solved my issue with a stock crossover. It is nowhere near the blower belt now!

It is on the other end of the engine now. Spacers pending getting the Haas VF-3SSYT online.

    Now I have a cross-flow cooling Hemi!
