You can easily change water pump inlet side by just changing to post 69 water pump , Ford did nothing but swap sides on inlet . I have early timing cover , fuel pump , dist ., intake and carb on an 84 GT 302 in my 32 .these Motors are great advancements over early SBFs

0FD09177-7EE3-471E-81A3-B9F41175ABC6.jpeg I’ve had a few SBF motors over the years . I did the Y-Block valve covers because I think they look older and more traditional for my 33 coupe. They are good running motors and I’m not ashamed of mine !

  5. Don't we all like to dress up our engines by changing the stock valve covers to finned aluminum or chrome? I see no difference in that and putting Yblock valve covers on a SBF since the yblock covers look better. A SBF engine looks good in a 70s Ford, Cobra, etc but doesn't look traditional so if you are going to use one of these great engines and you are wanting to dress it up, I see nothing wrong in changing the valve covers. My 2¢

Making your SBF look like a Y Block makes you a poser.
    Nothing like the real thing.

These posts about spending money to make an engine look like something its not continues to amaze me. Who are the people you are trying to impress? Theres nobody out there who gives a shit about what engine is in YOUR car?

But let's make every 305, 307, smog 350 and crate engine look like a "corvette" engine. Never ceases to amaze me how bias people can be. The......"I don't mind the "Y" block because of the distributor location" thing is funny. I get the traditional aspect of this site and the small ford really doesn't meet most of the criteria but let's get realistic. Every other car has a ford 9 inch in it and no one has an issue with that. I know they were available back then but why not stick to your roots and install an olds or chevy rear? I love the craftsmanship of people on this site no matter what the power plant is. If someone does something to make their car more appealing to them so be it. There are a lot more poser things on here than just "Y" block valve covers on a small block ford. I say if the owner likes it, then it's his choice. Be supportive instead of criticizing his attempt at making what he has look more in line with the time period he is shooting for. Not all of us have period correct stuff in our garage or basement or attic and I know I don't have the wallet to go for the NOS stuff to make my cars that way. There's a guy in my area driving a beautiful ford truck with a small chevy with fake olds valve covers on it. He smiles every time he drives away in it. AND YES.....he has the means to put an olds in his truck if he wants to. Sorry about the rambling but I wish we encouraged people to seek out making their rides unique even if it includes fake valve covers..

  10. We are all "posers" in one way or another. Just pick which way you want your car to look like something its not.

Definitely. I have to many cars but love them all. They are all like time stamps of my life when I acquired them so it's hard for me to part with them. Not many people can say that they have their first car still, their parents first purchased car together still and my step mom's first new purchased car still. There's alot of sentimental reasons I can't sell them. Two of them are off topic but not too far. I'm 50. My first car was a 64 ford falcon sprint which is still in pieces but in dry storage.

Speaking of SBF's in traditional cars, or trying to make a SBF look older, what do you guys think about this? I saw this recently at a local rod run and snapped these pics to share here on the HAMB, this thread seems like as good a place as any to do that. I like it. Never seen anything like that before. Reminds me a bit of the Cross Boss Trans Am piece.

  16. The y covers on a sbf shown here look cool
This is what I would consider “ posing”

Finished up the mods to my early '60's valve covers (think I got them from a '63 Fairlane 260). Welded a stand on the left side for a breather/fill cap and modified the right side for a PCV valve. They will be painted engine color when the time comes for paint!
