My A has orange plex in the back and both doors. Looking through this is like wearing BluBlocker sunglasses, like someone flipped on a light switch. Don't think it will stay. 20181112_171330 (2).jpg It was supposed to be built about 20 years ago but I know colored plex has been used for quite a while. What are your thoughts?

Lots of colour plexi in the early sixties and on...I like it but it may impede driving I suppose...thats a really cool Hotrod @barnhunter

When I think of the colored plexi I also think Showrods or Strip Cars...lets say Shiny painted so yours being Flat Black perhaps it is a little Period off. But perhaps shiny is on the way...;)

    What is the side glass?

Lots of colored spray tinted rear quarter windows were seen as I remember in the mid sixties along with front bumper removal and the jacked up front ends to imitate the gasser look popular back then. I didn’t know anyone that actually had plexi.
Windex blue and red were most popular.

I agree, colored spray tint was big, mid/late 60s. Red, blue, yellow, & green around here. There was a guy in my little burg who changed his weekly. I thought it was cool as hell!

Thanks. Side glass is also orange plexi. I'm not to the paint stage yet, but just got some ideas on the photoshop thread.

Even Ford got into that in the '50s. Ford and Merc both had tinted Plexi 1/2 roofs on some models, 54/5/6.

I knew a guy about 1972 that bought a 55 Chevy two door wagon that had a (functional) formed red plexiglass hood scoop screwed to the steel hood.
Not the box style but that cool little one with the rounded top that were used pretty regularly on 60's drag cars.

    Edit
Now that I think about it, it could have been blue.

Dad had dark green in his 36 starting back in 1960.

  10. It was outlawed by NHRA in the late 60's as a safety issue. The starters didn't like it, and neither did the Safety Crew.

I've seen 50's vintage blue and green plexiglass sun visors. Trying to find one here, not quite as popular as the steel or aluminum visors

I put green plexiglass in the back and the quarter windows in my coupe. The local TAP Plastics place only had it in 1/8" thickness, so I left the safety glass in place and put the plexiglass on the inside. Mags and slicks 5-1-17 008.JPG

Had plexi windows in 63/64 in race cars. My MG, Ray Kobel's Willys (smoke) Ken Hayn's 56 Chevy to name a few.

I suppose nowadays you could use hand applied tint any color and go inspired and maybe even UV protect you're skin too keep it smooth and supple...:D

I think you may have trouble certifying plexi on the street so applied tint may be the only option...but your not fond of it anyway...and changing glass is a cost and a pain...your choice in the end.

I bought a 34 Plymouth at a police auction in 67 that had blue plexi insert in the top.
My avatar passed tech at the 04 Hot Rod reunion with yellow lexan windows. Helped highlight tree. Sort of like shooters glasses.

Love the Willy's. Raced mine several years as an altered. Tech's didnt seem to care about the tint. Pulled blower motor out to go to put In the Dart. Gona try the Gasser route. Screenshot_20171129-184837.jpeg
