  7. [​IMG] Walt Hansgen 7 April, 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II [​IMG] Shelby American Testing
    During preliminary tests on a wet track on Saturday morning, April 2, 1966 he lost control and drove down an escape road. He was not aware that a barrier had been placed across the escape lane and he crashed heavily. Five days after his accident, Hansgen died in the American military hospital of Orléans, France, where he had been admitted.

    Yeah I knew that, I didn't want to mention that on this forum [sounding morbid]
    I am more interested in that particular car [chassis # GT40P 1011] which is claimed to be resurrected again.
    But typical in the historic race-car scene, it is highly probable that some "bullshit artist" has built a replica using a genuine "nut & bolt" that came off that car and is now claiming it's provenance

    Ford shipped it home to be destroyed to avoid lawsuits, but it was believed to be stored at Holman & Moody [this is the grey area]

    While we are on the subject of Racing safety
    Here's some Racing on a Dirt Oval [Gloucester Park, Auckland NZ which closed in '64]

    The sanctioning body was a bit relaxed on driver safety

  23. The checker on the flags is not that sharp, but I believe that's just the clarity of the photo. Otherwise, everything else looks the same as on my '59 Chevy. I don't see anything wrong with it.
