When lightweight, injected SB dragsters ran in the NHRA, just how quick did they get, and who built the fastest? Please post pics, too.
Logghe Brothers in Detroit ran Chevy small block fuel injected (no blower) dragsters in the early to mid 60’s. I think they were running 327 to 350 cubic inches. They were very lightweight and launched off the line like a rocket ship. This was when dragsters used to smoke the tires full length of drag strip. They would most time get caught at the high end with dragsters that were blown and probably three or four time more horsepower. As I recall they used to run ET’s in the mid to low 8’s which was very fast at that time. Saw Logghe Brothers run many times at Detroit Dragway. As a side note they went on to be a respected builder of dragster and funny car chassis.
The early NHRA injected dragsters were gas burners at the time that tracks like Lions ran Junior Fuel (310 cubic inches, unblown) and later the nitro versions ran in Pro Comp. The current nostalgia Junior Fuellers (410 inches, alky and automatic trans ) have run in the high 6.7 range. The original J/F Chevys ran in the mid 7's but determining who had the quickest may be difficult this many years later. Roo
301" (283 bored) 121" chassis home built and certified , ran av gas with a little tip of the can (nitro when we didn't get caught)
Thanks. For a brief time (no pun intended) they were a thing. And, I remember that Logghe, Marsh, and Steffey car!
