I believe it's the Hart Fullerton car, not sure of where or when the first picture was taken.

 

Rootie, IndyRJC, the only #79 in the time period I can find is a Mel Wiggers Kurtis 4000, 1953.

 

Sad, prob. a 51 bus. coupe deluxe. I've had one since 62. The chrome trim on the side puzzels me.

 

Maybe because it is a 1949....

 

My friend says the woman dressed as cat women is Barbara Eden, I say no and I would ask the Hamb

That is a picture of Barnard Ave in Vernon, BC. I grew up there. That was the main street we used to haunt. The Kalamalka Hotel is where we had the first meeting of the Camjammers Car Club in 1956, and the club is still active.

BODFISH? It is a great name for a small town on the Caliente-Bodfish Road leading into Lake Isabella in California. This photo should be on J.Ukrop’s Bakersfield thread/post. It is just over the Breckenridge Mountain Range East of Bakersfield. The whole area has some classic identifying town names: Havilah, Caliente, Rankin Ranch, Twin Oaks, (NOT TWIN PEAKS…) and at Fig Orchard, a cross road “Y.” This "Y"allows one to go North to Bakersfield or South to Arvin and the freeway to LA.

This winding road is one of the most colorful roads in California. It is pretty desolate, has been in many Hollywood films and has a few of those unusual towns spread wide and far. It is a fun change in driving, coming from the deserts to the east into the LA Basin. Make sure your car/hot rod is well tuned and in great shape. It is a great drive, but so desolate, that any breakdown could take a while for any form of roadside help. (cell phone service is spotty...) It also has many blind curves and off camber curves in succession, making it a swaying drive at some points.

It might be fun driving on flat surfaces, but this road has hills that block the sun from melting snow and ice from the roads. Coming around a blind corner and hitting a patch of ice could send anyone into a ditch in an instant, even if you are driving slowly because of the weather conditions. An El Camino experience stays in our memories forever, luckily, it was a two foot drop off and not a 100 ft cliff.

My wife’s family had a place near Lake Isabella for years and our winter family gatherings always took place there, sometimes in the snow and rain. The drive was fun, but dangerous, even after many trips back and forth to Metropolitan LA and points north.
