History The Model T will celebrate 110th anniversary in 2019 lets see yours.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Oct 22, 2018.

  1. We are aware that Ford built 15 Million Model T's which is a staggering amount of cars & trucks but tt would be interesting to know just how many Model T's are still out there now.

With WWI from 1914-1918 there is no doubt many Model T's succumbed to the scrap drives during that period of time.

    15.jpg

I'm sure even more were sacrificed two decades later, The Model T's were built to last and that's why they are still around.

I recently saw this interesting artical: In 1949, more than twenty years after the end of production, 200,000 Model Ts were registered in the United States. In 2008, it was estimated that about 50,000 to 60,000 Ford Model Ts remain roadworthy.

The Model T was Ford's first automobile that was mass produced on a moving assembly lines with completely interchangeable parts and marketed for the middle class. Henry Ford said of the vehicle:

I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one – and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God's great open spaces.

What really is amazing to think that the Model T will celebrate it's 110th anniversary next year. HRP

I've always wanted a T, I picked up this 26 a couple months back for cheap. Still has the original engine that it left the factory with. Runs and with a little tlc It now drives too. Fun car to work on and drive. I can definately appreciate the engineering ford put into these little cars, theres a reason so many have survived. 20180901_192824.jpeg

  9. Not sure about Model T's but the model A Club of America claims that two million out the five million made are still in existence. Wonder if the Model T Club has a similar claim.

Just added this 1926-27 T spindle to the parts collection. T parts can be found just about any were, my Son in Law was running cement chunks from a house demo through a rock crusher, and this spindle was in the metal pile. That keyway looks like it was machined yesterday, no brass bushings so it could be a NOS part. Bob DSCF8446.JPG DSCF8448.JPG

I only have one good T story.

So, my dad and my grandpa had a really odd T dump truck that they were trying to buy for years. This was back in the early 60's. (Dad's cousin was a serious T collector)

It was in a bad part of town and the owner was an elderly, black gentlemen that was scared of strangers. He had been beaten by some kids, so he was very skeptical of folks he didn't know. They finally won him over by stopping by every few weeks. He told them the story behind the little dump truck.

Anyway, he worked for the owner of the Skirvin Hotel, as a handyman on the grounds, https://www.skirvinhilton.com , the owner was friends with Henry Ford. He ordered the truck with a manual crank bed and a few other options, to be used around the facility. When he retired, the owner of the Skirvin let him keep the truck. He used it around town doing odd jobs, until it was eventually parked next to the house where it died.

He would never sell the truck, it was valuable to him. Sentimental value, I suppose. One day they stopped by and the old man was gone and so was the truck. He had passed away and his kids had scrapped the truck. The truck monetarily wasn't super valuable, but the story behind it was what was cool.

My dad was sick. He still tells the story with a gleam in his eye.

Thanks Roothawg, Sad story, I think a lot of cars & trucks got lost because we missed calling or stopping by one week or month. Bob

Here's my recently painted '26T coupe. All original steel, but the front fenders are from a different car. The '27T roadster in the background is a slightly OT fiberglass job.
About a year ago, I had a poll thread "How many HAMB Model T's out there?"
We counted up about 210+ HAMB Model T's, but I included fiberglass T's. Maybe I'll dig up that thread to see if we can count up some more.
A while back, a similar thread counting up HAMB model A's came up with 2300-2400 HAMB A's out there. It looks like us Model T guys are out-numbered by better than 10 to 1!

  28. Gotta remember there were 15 Million T's built but millions were sacrificed to the war efforts during the scrape metal drives. HRP
