    Hello:

I have a Manzel tool catalog from July 1954. It covers 1939 to 1954.

I would like to keep it. If you have Manzel numbers or pictures I can look through the catalog and try to identify.

Manzel cam bearing tool 6261 with set of 6261-AB, 6261-J, 6261-H adapters trying to find what they are for, fairly sure they are early to mid Y block Ford. Thanks for any help

Manzel Ford tools follow same basic system as KR Wilson tools made after the mid thirties...
The number is the root part number for the part the tool operates on, 6261 for cam bearing here, and the letters identify the line of engines of the application. Those letters don't match anything Ford used by this time so you need the secret decoder info from a catalog. A list of those letters would make any Ford tools found readily identifiable.

Hello Again: The Manzel 6261B as it appears in the catalog looks like a kit with different size adaptors and a lon bar to pound in the cam bearings.

The 6261 D & F kit has a large wing nut and threaded rod to remove and install cam bearings.

The 1954 catalog does not show 6261 AB, 6261J, 6261 H. I would think these are just different size for other engines.

    There were a couple of cross references..... 6261E to Ford T 54L 6250 A & B. Also 6261B to Ford #/ KRW # 6005 N

I hope this has been some help. Gary

Gary, thanks my kit is like the 6261 D & F kit but it has 3 sets of 3 adapters, I'm assuming that my kit is for later engines

Flathead (and N and 6 cyl series engines) had 1.797 diameter cam bearings. Y blocks have at very least two cam bearing diameters, but I don't have specs on those.

Hi Everett: The tool you have is a 1954 Mercury cylinder block core plug installer. AKA frost plug. See picture. Gary DSC01477.JPG

the 239 y had a larger cam bearing this may help explain the different size.meaning the adapters may be for post 239 y=272 and up
