Thought I’d share some pictures from this past weekend’s gasser war at the Emerald Coast Drag Strip in Holt, FL. I met a fellow H.A.M.B.er there (boutlaw) and watched him run his Ranchero. What a great group of racers! Boutlaw’s Ranchero This Chevy was one of the fastest at the strip. Or how about a 20k mile original paint Comet? This Willys was crazy! Guy found it buried under years of brush and trees. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Highvolt5.0, That is a nice grouping of tough looking cars! Thanks for taking the photos and sharing them. Do you have any other photos of that Willys that the owner found in the brush? I would like to make a similar find...
Was great to finally meet Hivolt. Super guy, great kids to. Also, when the wifes Lexus died in Ft Walton Beach, and Im in central Mississippi, I called my HAMB buddy Hivolt and he was there that afternoon. What a awesome guy. Ive been running the Ranchero a little over a year now with the Southern Outlaw Gasser crew, great group of guys, family friendly racers, great food and all around good times. Just had a local guy do some door lettering on the Ranchero, and now its down for upgrades over the winter. The Willys has a unique story. Jimmy got the car literally out of the woods. Took a few years to find body panels for patches from Washington state to the East coast. SBC , tunnel ram, 660s, originally a 4 speed car, but now an automatic car.
I'm kinda' partial to the o/t Falcon behind the Wild Fire Willys. Looks like a good time, lots of nice cars. Nice Ranchero Boutlaw!!! What engine are you using?
Looks like some of these cars were at Atmore Dragway in Alabama a couple weeks ago. The blue Chevy “Cheap Thrill” was there for sure and was very fast
Yep, lot of the cars were pictured were at Atmore GBO 8. I was there to, but MSD Digital 6AL didn't want to participate in the fun. The Cheap Thrills car is definitely a fast car, looking forward to GBO 9 in the Spring in Atmore.
We were there spectating. Had not been to a drag strip for several years. I’m more into road and circle track racing. However I’m of the age when gassers were king. I really did enjoy walking around the pits and the show they put on. Very cool! Will definitely be there for GBO 9 in the spring. Do most of these guys also run with the Southeast Gasser group. Think I saw car in your avatar at Cruisn’ the Coast in the entrance to parking garage going to swap meet Thursday morning . Nice car always wanted a fender less coupe.
I did park the coupe in the parking garage right at the corner nearest entrance to auction and swap meet. As far as running with SE Gassers, only a few, as SEG requires 4 speed cars.
That is the car I had at Atmore, but only made two passes, MSD box didn't want to participate in the fun.. Normally the car runs 6.80s. The 445 is a bore/stroked 390. Im pretty sure the stroked 427s end up at 462 or 482. Cant bore the 427s very much. The sideoiler in the 31 coupe is .017 overbore, stock stroke.
I'm not to "up to speed" on the big block Fords but that one sure looks like it pushes that Ranchero around nicely. I originally wanted to put a 390 in my o/t Falcon but was talked out of it by my engine guy. He told me the 390 has a inherent oiling problems & that scared me away. Settled for a 331, not a real torque monster but gets the job done. Again, beautiful car, looks like fun.
Thanks! I think there was a car next to you at Cruisn’ for sale but don’t remember what it was but your coupe caught my eye.
