  1. ..................and don't get me started on the '38 DeLuxe and '38 Standard compared to the '39 Standard. I always get confused with them.

The flamed one has the same narrow (not ribbed) trim.

Vent windows, V-butted windshield vs. a separated one, wide grille vs. the narrow one...oh brother.

Not today, last weekend. Saw a Gottlieb Bronco (https://ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=387) or possibly Mustang that was re-themed to Hot Rod. Really well done on the artwork, looks almost like something Gottlieb could have released in the 70s.

Took a walk to the shops on my lunch break and saw this '39 Pontiac with Eastern Cape plates. Quite a catalogue of South African hot rod mods there, and hence probably a bit of history, but the result is surprisingly restrained. Jaguar XJ6 wheels may or may not mean Jaguar suspension all round – note the wide track – as a recent generation of local rodders believed that all hot rods have to have Jag suspension. The green paint may come from the '80s or earlier, when a prior generation believed that hot rods ought to have a "wild" colour like purple, orange, hot pink, or lime green. That was the generation who got to know hot rods through Fad-Ts, and who interpreted the phenomenon as based primarily in automotive parody. The current mild-custom vibe is actually quite cool, with a tiny bit of early lowrider feel.

Got this sign from local allsups store. They're remodeling store and this was behind the front overhang. The contractor called dibbs on coke signs but gave me the rest. No one in town remembers it ever being a bbq joint. My dad has been here since 6os and doesn't remember it. The tractor I got at an antique store. It was their anniversary and everything was on sale. Gave 30 bucks for it. 20181106_112530.jpg 20181108_120534.jpg

    The Old PLUS the Newish…
    Hello,

I was doing some research and came up with an old photo of the Cortopassi Brothers’ fabulous, early streamlined, FED. It was set up for drag racing and with a few changes in gearing, ready for a run at Bonneville.

“This is Ed Cortopassi’s "Glass Slipper" fuel dragster of 1956 vintage. Its frame, suspension and engine represent the typical technology of the time, although it’s elegant full body and driver canopy were anything but typical fare. A "show-n-go" machine of its day.”

...with the Flathead it went 181 at Bonneville in 1955

I was just setting up a story on the Glass Slipper and copied the two photos on my Word Document. When I accidentally moved the Bonneville photo to the bottom of the page, it got stuck on top of the drag racing photo. It became its own double exposure photo without any manipulation, trick 35mm or digital efforts. I am a little knowledgeable about photos and developing/altering them, but this one threw me for a loop. An automatic double exposure in digital form. How cool is that? I quickly did a screenshot and saved this for my files.

This is the second time my inexpensive laptop did a weird photo array. The last one was a flash “mirror image” when I was finishing my Friday Art Thread post. A giant surprise, then going with the moment, I added the blue water reflection

As old hot rodders are always looking for the next horsepower gain to go a little faster, and have better results, this old laptop was seeing its last days. Despite the constant cleaning up files, defragmenting the same files, keeping the built in hard drive at less than 50 % full, it was still getting slow and slower. Minimal photos, movies and computer programs on the daily laptop keeps the speeds up. The external hard drives (3) store all of the movies and files for safe keeping.

The next laptop will be the fast, super-powerful, hot rod of laptops without breaking the bank account. It would be the “Sidewinder vs The Little Deuce Coupe” in real life. NO CONTEST…

But, with these unusual effects popping up now and then, something is telling me to clean up the old guy (under powered laptop) and make him work another few years or until it freezes up completely. Or... spend some money (within reason, not $4K) and get the Top Eliminator of laptops for daily usage. Choices, choices...

Drove into Bend today and came across this Caddy in a parking lot. Super solid and straight. Cool cruiser for sure, right down to the wide whitewalls. IMG_1598.JPG IMG_1599.JPG
