    Hi members ,

I posted my problems with my ford side valve v8 , being very tight to start from a full rebuild , ,was not happy when it grabbed after 2 hours running , so I stripped it down again , and found the rear main bearing was stuffed.

I went to see a friend who has had a bit to do with this 8ba motor, and said to me ,
" IF THE REAR MAIN SEAL WAS VERY TIGHT, IT HEATS UP THE BACK END OF THE MAIN BEARING ,TO THE POINT THAT IT GETS HOT ,EXPANDS, and that is why it locked for a second then freed it self up again. "

Any members heard of this happening ?
I would like to know for my own experience please.
    ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

    Many thanks ,

I don't have an answer to your need, but you will get many more appropriate responses if you re-title this thread so that the problem is identified. Something like-"8ba Main seal issues".

I don't believe that a tight seal can cook a bearing.
Sounds like your bearing clearance was too tight.

You could try turning it w/o pistons. Untorqued, then tighten one cap at a time. Maybe see where or why it binds.
