I've seen some cars from the era done with a SBC but the chassis has been clipped. Or: https://butchscoolstuff.com/42-53-p...b-chevy-engine-transmission-mount-kit-2192cp/
Hi. Not only the steering box. If you have the factory heater that will have to go. for others that do not know, on those Plymouths the BIG heater & its ductwork is located on the other side of the engine from the steering box. It is Huge. I am getting a 50 Plymouth bock on the road right now. The avatar photo is the image of engine in my 46 Chevy, not the Plymouth. Jimmie
It's gonna fit..you have to move it over to the left an inch or so..the factory did that in the 60s...driver offsets the difference in weight...
It has been 30 plus years, so I don't remember the specifics, but yes, it can be done, and the one I saw was done with manifolds, not headers. Mike did move the engine to the right, and yes, it was a tight fit. He also went with a TH350, but the floors were so rusty he replaced everything from firewall to the rear bumper, and as such had no clearance issues.
Short water pump and pulleys will give you room for stock radiator location..Stock firewall..if HEI distributor require firewall clearance , use torch and knock a recess..no cutting this way....if you have a torch...nice car ...black makes it....
You might check with skipstitch here on the hamb, he has a bitch'n 50 with a small block. It's a tight fit but it's been done.
Helped a buddy put one in a 50 or 51 crabrook a dozen years. What i recall is that we used the plydo mount kit, itnwas SUPER tight and to route the exhaust we had to use rear dump factory manifolds turned around go dump at the front. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
SBC in my 48 Plymouth. Plydo engine mounts, short water pump, engine moved toward passenger side about 1" or so. rams horn exhaust manifolds, had to massage the firewall a bit to clear the valve cover on passenger side. Had to fabricate a crossmember to support the transmission. Tight, but it fit. Yours is probably similar.
The HEMI won't fit without a lot of surgery https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/48-hemi-plym-mock-up-pics.847329/ build thread^^^^
