Technical 59 Chevy Impala Convertible

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by cully33, Oct 30, 2018.

  1. So I am finally going to start work on my 59 Impala, thinking of installing a air bag suspension kit, can anyone recommend a good brand/supplier of such a kit to suit my 59.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I’ve seen BC fab. I haven’t bought anything but they look like that have some good thought out kits. And also a wishbone kit to replace the pan hard bar.

I have BC bag brackets on my '63 - same chassis. Simple & work well.

  6. Thanks for the info I will look into both these company's, I have changed the title to Technical as I was just asking for information, and I am sure there will be more questions to come as I get into the build, I may start a projects thread at a later date as I get more into it.

No skirts or stock skirts would look better
and go with the flow of the car doy.
The long cruiser skirts detract from and over accentuate the rear of the car.

  8. I agree on the no skirts. My ‘59 Pontiac was wearing skirts when I bought it. The skirts removal was the first thing I did. It looked so much better....... in my opinion. I think ‘59 is a transition year where styling really started to change and skirts just don’t suit the style of the car.

Love those 59 Impalas. I'd have to go with a slight California rake and no skirts though. My best friend in High school bought a 59 Impala 2 door ht with a 348 & 4 speed that was nose down and was the same blue as the nose of your 59.

  10. Seems like the general view is no skirts, the car came with the fox craft skirts complete with mint trim NOS fake exhaust ports and Pontiac stars. I personally like the skirts with the trim, exhaust ports and stars attached, my plan will be to restore and paint the skirts with the car, then see how I like it no big deal to remove them if I think they don't suit. Car also came with a Continental kit which I am also unsure weather I will run with all not.
The car has been pieced together from a few different cars going by the amount of color variation, the tag shows the original body color as snowcrest white with red interior so that is what I am going with.
Some food for thought with the attached pics.

Cruiser skirts can look great on custom 59 Impalas! Chopped-59-5.jpg
