    Hello,

Last week, I read that the famous Competition Coupe of the record setting, Leffler/ Loukas Group from back East had signed up to give the Colburn Glaze Comp Coupe (a So Cal local) a match race sometime back in the Summer of 1960. That would have been a killer of a race to see! For some reason, we were not able to see that race at any So Cal dragstrip. By then the Leffler/ Loukas group had already moved to So Cal and were officially, Westcoast locals. So, no East VS. West in the Comp Coupe classes, just who was the fastest in the class, between those two in this area.

“The smooth 15 inch wheels were Halibrand’s earliest examples made specifically for drag racing as most were drilled for bolt on and not pin drive. They may be the earliest drag specific wheels ever, as they predate Romeo Palamides’ wheels by several years. Here they are on Neal Leffler and John Loukas’s Competition Coupe. Note that mounting the rear wheels backward was an affordable means to reduce wheel track during a period when narrowed axles were very expensive.”

    Hello,
The Leffler Bros coupe, “World’s Fastest Coupe,” made a swing to the West Coast of California in 1959-60. They raced at a lot of the local strips. Here is a compilation of their run through several of the places where I filmed the drag races. (Lions and Bakersfield) It was an impressive coupe to say the least… Even though, he got a "California Stop" running start against the Jerry Card coupe at the 1960 Bakersfield Smokers Meet. Red light …? You be the judge… (The Lefflers moved to So Cal in 1960). Californian’s are known for their “California Stop” folklore, but, this super-fast, record holding, transplanted, visitor, takes the cake…a win is a win?

“This is another photo of the Colburn/Glaze coupe that I have never seen before. That coupe was one of my favorites back in 1959. It always looked ready to rumble. My brother wanted to eventually drive an FED like Tommy Ivo's single Buick. I wanted to be the cool guy in this mean looking Colburn Glaze Coupe. That would have been something.

Here is one of my favorite films that I just happened shoot, of the early Colburn/Glaze Coupe in 1959 at Lions.”

I painted this for a buddy at least 10 years ago....just re-found it in his garage. Even more fun than painting it the first time. Painted on a cookie sheet. CHUCKSTER.jpg

Just painted this for my son's farm. Hope his family likes it. Fender skirt has some real life patina for sure. Gary farm1.jpg

  20. Rusty, they just keep gett'en good 'er and good'er! I think that the junkyard is from one of my dreams. Lol My plan for today was to take some live shots of fall. From here in the valley, for the F.A.S. But it's raining. So here's another one from yesterday. 20181101_141050.jpeg
